What a Plymouth Gem! Rye Tavern is tucked away in the picturesque woods of Plymouth MA. My friends and I traveled from Boston to Plymouth to celebrate (safely... we all tested negative for COVID) bachelorette weekend. We had our final dinner at Rye Tavern and were in love with the setting, staff, and food. The restaurant spills out of a 18th century farm house onto a beautiful patio. The farm to table style meal was absolutely delectable and beautifully prepared. The space was clean and COVID conscious with lots of space in between tables, disposable menus, and sanitized tables in between guests. The staff stayed 6 feet apart and wore their masks appropriately the entire time. When we approached after dinner desserts, I was sorely disappointed to have a dairy allergy. The menu had the most tasty assortment of cakes, ice-cream, and seasonal goodies I’ve ever seen. When I asked the waitress if any of it was dairy free, she rushed back to ask the pastry chef. Unfortunately, none of it was free of lactose. BUT the pastry chef created a customized a dairy free dream of caramelized apples, pecans, and marshmallows with fresh pomegranate seeds drizzled with honey. It was one of the tastiest desserts I’ve ever had. I would absolutely come back to this establishment and would recommend anyone else to go.

Found this gem looking for a place to eat with a dog on a whim and boy, wish we had known about it before! The staff at every level were fantastic, the host was super helpful and seated us immediately in an incredible outdoor “gazebo” which was a private dining area on the patio with siding and heaters. It was decorated beautifully overlooking the garden and felt cozy. Our server Denise was incredible, she was happy to explain more about the restaurant, menu and was really enjoyable. She offered a bowl for our dogs water and mentioned they can make him a burger (much to his thrill). She was great at checking in as needed without making us feel rushed. The food runner was super friendly and sweet too. Service was extremely prompt but also did not feel rushed. The cocktails were really good, recommend the sparrow house old fashioned and espresso martini. The menu is short but everything seems planned thoughtfully. We had the swordfish and salmon, both with sides that we were not used to with such dishes but well worth it. Everything was so good we got desert, a sundae that was peanut buttery and chocolatey. We did not go inside but really look forward to our next visit.

How do you review a place that is obviously having a bad night for your party, but is obviously otherwise successful? That's the dilemma that I had, and, not just myself, but the other members of my party in reviewing the Rye Tavern. It sort of made us wish that Google had a rate the reviewer category. Our party of 8 arrived on a balmy early summer evening, and were promptly seated. We had cozy outdoor seating near the herb garden. Perfect! Our waitress, Megan, was always attentive and accommodating. We did observe that the parking lot was full, and most tables occupied. We've dined at the Rye Tavern before, and we've enjoyed it. Our drinks, including specialty cocktails were delivered promptly, and our orders taken. We ordered the Lamb appetizer as well as Bruschetta, and shared them as appetizers. Both were quite good. A couple of our party ordered pizza, and enjoyed it. My wife had scallops, which were excellent, others in our party had Smash Burgers (pronounced them quite good), and the salmon (very tasty with a bit of dill). I chose a different path: I had the Clam Chowder and a Caesar Salad. The Clam Chowder is billed as creamy, which I would question. The Clam Chowder consists of fried clam bellies, mashed potatoes, and bacon. What's not to like? I found the chowder more like mashed potatoes than chowder, and, while I applaud creativity in the kitchen, I found the chowder to be very heavy, though tasty. The Caesar Salad was good, if not exceptional. The food was good, presentation was excellent, so far, so good. The problem was the delay of service. We had arrived early and, as I mentioned earlier, we were seated promptly. Our waitress, Megan, was wonderful, and repeatedly assured us our entrees would be out. The entrees would be out in a few minutes. She was sorry the kitchen was taking so long. She had elevated the issue to her manager! Still, no entrees. We were seated almost 2 ½ hours before we got our meals. To be fair, we were offered complimentary cocktails and dessert, and a couple of our party did take up on those offers. We had a lovely table, leisurely conversation, so not devastating, but after a while we were all ready to move on. I try to be fair and accurate in my reviews. This is a first for me, where I polled the members of our party. Solid 3! Yes Rye Tavern is a beautiful place, a wonderful place to share a meal. Service is normally good. We hit the Rye Tavern on a night that the kitchen had a problem. The staff did their best to smooth things out, the kitchen let them down. We'll return to the Rye Tavern. We've had great experiences in the past. The number of people dining on a weekday is a testament to the popularity of the Rye Tavern. We just ran into a bad night for the kitchen. Try the Rye Tavern. Hopefully you'll enjoy it, and post a great review. I hope you'll...

I booked/visited the Rye Tavern for my wedding rehearsal dinner. I have some mixed feelings about my experience, so I'll explicitly separate the event booking process from the dining process. (3 stars for service to account for the event staff)

I found the Rye Tavern via Google. My partner and I live in Boston and our wedding was in Carver. We liked the location near our venue/lodging, and felt the upscale rustic vibe was exactly what we were going for. We were expecting 10-12 people, so I called to make a reservation about a month out. I was directed to their event coordinator, so I sent out an email to get things going. Response time was quick, and over several emails and a week or two, details were ironed out and confirmed. I was finally directed back to the restaurant to book with instruction to reference my conversation with the event coordinator. When I tried to call and confirm, it took me 2 days to get a hold of someone. I left a message and emailed the event coordinator without response. When I did get a hold of someone, it was clear the event coordinator had not communicated my reservation to the restaurant staff, who had no idea about my intent to book. I was also informed the time we wanted was not available as another large party had a reservation already (by this time we were too close to the day to find a new venue). I was definitely frustrated, but a very helpful hostess worked with me to make a reservation for an earlier time they could accommodate. The downside was we had several guests flying in who couldn't make the earlier booking, which was disappointing. I did hear back from the event coordinator after I'd already made the reservation, and her response seemed to be unaware that there was a larger party already booked. I understand everyone was very busy, but I am fairly frustrated at the apparent lack of communication between the event coordinator and venue.

Once we did get to the Tavern (which was in a breath-takingly beautiful location!), everything was great. Service was polite and attentive, the food and drinks were amazing, and the vibe was indeed exactly what we wanted. The staff were very communicative, letting us know the other large party was due soon so we could have last drinks and square up without feeling rushed. If I am back in the area I will go back, absolutely.

Not so sure I'd ever book an event here...

Friday August 9th was my b-day, my boyfriend took me there for a nice dinner, since we haven’t been there in a long time. We were treated VERY RUDELY. 1rst: the hostess asked us if we had a reservation, which we where told years ago that they don’t take reservations under parties of 4(it was only 2 of us) 2nd: the hostess didn’t ask us if we wanted to sit outside or inside, she seemed very undecided to sit us, she walked away to ask someone if she could sit us. The hostess automatically sat us @ a table inside. 3rd:we were sitting @ our table for almost 5 minutes, nobody came over to give us water, nobody came over to take our drink order. 4: we sat there watching the wait staff constantly walking pass us, even a bus boy walked passed us with a water picture & didn’t offer any water, we were very parched. 5: my boyfriend noticed a party of 6 got seated & got there water glasses filled right away. Needless to say we ended up leaving. As we were getting up from our table the hostess walked by us, didn’t say anything to us, & she cut my b-friend off, didn’t apologize. I understand, it was a Friday night @ 7:00pm, it was busy,. I’ve been working in the costumer service industry for 37 years, I notice things like this,. Not, only were we treated very rudely but also not being acknowledged. We ended up driving to Kingston & going to Solatisce, within 10 mins we were seated right away, no questions asked, we got water right away, we ordered wine, & our dinner. We love going to nice places for dinner & not mind paying, to us it’s only about the food, but also about the experience. It’s, to bad we were treated like this, we will...
