To begin, I frequently go to La Cantina and I will definitely continue going there after this visit
We ordered the Burrito Guadalajara and the Doña Cuca. I would highly recommend the Doña Cuca it was very good. The burrito Guadalajara was pretty good but the chipotle sauce didn't really pop and the meat in it was too salty. There was also a soup that came with one of our meals and it was super salty and made it so that I could pretty much only taste salt while eating it.
The thing that really lowered the score down was the Xango. I was feeling like I wanted to have a very well executed dessert and this wasn't even close. So what it is is a flour tortilla wrapped around a piece of what tasted like walmart cheesecake, covered in ground cinnamon served with whipped cream and pineapple and strawberry cubes. The initial part of tasting the tortilla shell was like having your tongue touch fine grit sandpaper. There also was a faint bitter taste from it. The cheesecake was very thick but had no taste. Parts of it was still frozen. The whipped cream was the only thing that was good but it came in a bowl with the pieces of strawberry and pineapple so the acidity from those ended up curdling it. Overall, it was a big waste of money and empty calories.
There was also random times when music would come on and be loud for a minute then shut off....
Read moreUpdate: Our first two visits were fantastic. The next three were progressively worse. Service quality dropped off, portion sizes shrank, and overall quality declined. After the third bad experience we've stopped going. Such a disappointment.
There's so many good things about this place. I don't even know where to begin. The service was phenomenal, the food was delicious, and the place was beautiful!
We ordered: Al Pastor Tacos El Jefe Parrillada Guacamole
All of the food was absolutely delicious. We travel regularly for tacos, and these street tacos are delicious! The Parrillada is big enough for four! Everything was fresh, tender, hot and flavorful. Some of the best beans we've ever had came with the al pastor!
Food: Awesome! Portions: Huge! Service: Honestly some of the best I've ever had at a restaurant. This is a fantastic team! Peter was great! Cleanliness: The whole place is very clean including the bathrooms. Atmosphere: top notch!
This is the best restaurant in Houghton County by a landslide!
Update 2/20/25 Went back for a second visit and everything was as great as the first time!
The spinach and chicken burrito is enormous and delicious! Best spinach sauce I've ever had on a burrito.
The three burritos combo is fantastic, the steak was particularly delicious!
Guacamole was even...
Read moreThe atmosphere is nice inside definitely gathers new wave Mexican restaurant attributes like the neon signage and more modern Hispanic music. Plenty of seating around the place with a nice bar top as well.
To eat, Chile Verde pork with charro beans and a side of hot salsa. The pork is tender and the sauce is a well balanced acidic and savory flavor. The beans are traditionally done with pieces of sausage and bacon and the rice is light but still holds some flavor (the two pair well). I got both tortillas and would go with the corn ones as the flour are run of the mill for up here. To drink I had a Mezcalita that has some great tropical notes from the nutty tamarind and the pineapple. The other drink was the Pompela which was a hibiscus margarita with a small kick to it. Both great drinks.
Overall great to see a new addition to the area for international food. The menu has some decent variety based on the meat groups or even vegetarian, ample family seating, and some solid drinks to...
