Olde Kegg Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Portage

I don't have a bad word to say about this place. Beer: Ordered 2 different IPAs. One was good, and the other (Pizza Boy) was great. Big selection that has a beer for everyone. Worth a stop just for a beer or 2.

Food: I ordered their Black and Bleu burger. The bun was buttery and delicious. A little undersized for the burger, but that may just be personal preference. The patty itself was outstanding. Great flavor and cooked to perfection. This was the best burger that I have ever had from a bar/restaurant. Better than any of the chain places (burgatory, red robin, BRGR, etc.)The toppings were the typical LTO plus bacon and crumbled bleu cheese. I also added Jalapeños, trust me. I decided on onion petals as my side, from a list that included multiple cuts of fries, fried hot pepper cheese cubes, and others that i can't recall at the moment. The petals were better than i expected. When you see them, you'll think its not enough, but it is.

Price: My burger with a side was a steal at $8.99 and it was more than enough for lunch. As a dinner, it should be enough, but I can eat a lot, so I'd recommend an appetizer. The beer was pricey, but typical for craft beers. My second one was 10%ABV and $6.00. Overall it is very slightly more expensive when comparing to most bars, but it is a much better establishment.

Cleanliness and service: We were the only people there so its hard to judge the typical service. All I can say is that the bartender was knowledgeable about the beer, friendly, and talkative. Our food arrived as quickly as it should. Very clean establishment.

If I could rate higher than 5 stars, I would. I wish I lived closer to this place so that I could sample all of the food and beers. If you are wondering where to eat in this area, it should...

I did like this place but after tonight and dinning with my family was the worst night we have ever had. I do not recommend this place to anyone and advise you not to take your children there. Our 10 month old baby threw up on the floor and I was made to clean it up with rags while the staff told a young lady that worked there that we was not allowed to use a mop and bucket. Once being in food service I know there are cleaners that can clean up all messes. On top all that we was made to sit outside in the smoking section while we waited for a table and 4 people came out to smoke around our baby as well as our sisters baby. We will never go back to the Olde Keg and will go else where even though the food was amazing it's the workers that make the experience what it is. Thank you Olde Keg for helping us realize that you are a dump and you just care about people boozing and money.

1/26/24 I was at the Olde Kegg Bar & Grill to celebrate our supervisor moving on to a better job. I will say that the staff was on point and beyond what happened to us last time. The waitress playing bartender was beyond remarkable the cook came out and told us what they had for specials and even interacted with us. I might bring my family back there sometime key point might. My family and I were there over the weekend after not being there for quite some time. The first time we had such an amazing experience and decided to go out of our way to try it again. This time we went our experience was so bad we had to look up if they were under new ownership and found out they apparently are. When we pulled up we thought they were closed as all the signs were off. No drink menu, the bartender/server said she could make whatever we asked. Ordered a simple margarita and when she brought it to the table she said "this is an attempt so if it's not good I'll take it off your bill". The drink was horrid and it took 3 of us to finish it. The beer options for flights are comical. Sam adams, blue moon etc... different small issues regarding the food, had asked if the broccoli bite appetizers had bacon, we were told no... When they were brought out they definitely had bacon lol. No pretzel buns for our burgers that were specifically made with a pretzel bun. There is also a smoking area right outside the dining room so every time the door opened the room filled with cigarette smoke.
