I hate leaving reviews like this since there's a lot of negativity in this world and I don't want to add to it, but I wanted to post this as a way to provide feedback. Absolutely no negativity to the server, that is not my intention, I understand everyone has their off days.
I have worked in culinary for over four years and I must say the food was absolutely amazing. I waited 15 minutes for my food and once I got it you can tell a lot of love, time, and experience was put in the food. I would definitely recommend the food. The pizza is wood-fired, beautifully thin and not doughy at all, and has a perfect char on the crust. The nutella canotto was also amazing and the ricotto wasn't overwhelming at all. Had the perfect ratio ricotto to nutella and it was so gooey and warm. Super delicious!
However, the customer service was not the best. I placed a pickup order in advance before they opened so that there's less wait time, but once I arrived I decided to just eat my pizza at a table since there was a major delay happening with transportation.
If there were many customers I definitely would have not sat and ate in to be respectful of those that want to dine-in (I have worked in the culinary industry so I definitely am mindful of that), but I counted at least four unoccupied tables (not counting the ones outside as well that were unoccupied) so I thought that it wouldn't hurt to quickly eat and leave. That was definitely not the case, because once I started eating for a bit the server came up to me and basically told me not to place a pickup order again if I'm going to dine in.
Again, I have worked in the culinary industry so I get where they're coming from, but the tone of voice when trying to communicate that was harsh and slightly ruined the atmosphere for me. I didn't waste any of the pizza boxes and reused the cardboard so I am not sure what the issue was. On top of that, there were multiple unoccupied tables so I don't understand why it was a big deal. If it was peak rush hour I totally would understand. I chose not to finish my food since I didn't want to burden anyone with eating so I packed my food a few minutes later and told them that I hope they have a good rest of their day in a genuine gentle tone and all I got was a cold response of "yeah."
I apologize for trying to dine in, but I could not find any sign nor statement on their website that says if an individual orders pickup and changes their mind to dine in, that they cannot. So my only feedback would be to state that rule somewhere so scenarios like this don't happen. I'm sorry if I caused an inconvenience to the server for dining in, but again, I didn't see any major issue when I was being mindful of my...
Read moreI’ve tried two pizzas here this week, roasted veggies and garlic bread. Each order was after 4pm. The first one was good ! It was a sausage and mushroom and the roasted veggies were really good, only real complaint with them was that they were too Burnt, same complaint with the garlic bread, the bread was too burnt on top, each bite was filled with a hardcore charcoal taste that would kill the flavor. The sauce that came with the bread, which was manera tasted like - honestly honestly- watered down salsa, I caved and used ranch to try and salvage it. We ate 2/4s of it. The second pizza was just flat out - idk it just seemed like it was going to be really good but wasn’t. The speck and arugula pizza, just not enough flavor. All in all it falls down to the price, the total of all these items spread by two orders was $65. That’s where the super stingy red pepper flakes turned us off. I didn’t check how much they gave me because I assumed it would be an ample amount but based on the picture - I’d say it’s just a waste of a plastic container.
As an alternative place I’d suggest, Baby doll pizza on SE stark they’re vegan options are super good very fairly priced, metal pizza on SE Milwaukie they have a lamb pizza that’s super bomb AND the best honey Chile oil you’ve ever had, lastly I’d recommend escape from NY pizza on NE 23rd ave really good, really well priced.
My honest feedback would be to watch the food from getting burnt and possibly adding more seasoning to your sauce. I’m sure oven cooking isn’t the easiest thing to do but really it’s all about...
Read morePizzeria Otto is a little gem hiding on NE Sandy. Pre-COVID, it was a cozy place inside, order at the counter and take a seat, rarely much of a line even while busy. The lunch deal can't be beat (with the basil and tomato pizza at $6). They currently have some beer, cider, and wine for takeout as well. There are also a few outdoor picnic tables for seating right now. Man, I miss the cozy indoor space though. Everyone seemed friendly inside. I have always had excellent service, even when they first re-opened for takeout.
The pizzas are all "personalish" sized, good for 1-2 people depending on how hungry you are and whether you get salads, etc. The crust is soft and warm and so perfect when it is just out of the oven that if I am getting takeout I still eat a piece on the way home. The ingredients are all high quality, with tomatoes that have flavor and basil that is fresh. (Note the generic pizza boxes. They put their money into ingredients, not boxes.)
It is hilarious to read many of the "I'm so disappointed" reviews here, as many of them are like "I went to this Chinese restaurant and they didn't make the french fries right." Neapolitan style pizza folks! That means soft crust done in a wood-fired oven. The wood-fired oven means a longer wait during popular times, as only so many pizzas can go in at a time. (If you don't want to wait, order ahead, especially for lunch.) If you are looking for: a crunchy crust, giant slices that fold, deep dish, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. (Those things are not Neapolitan...
