Very disappointing portion sizes, particularly with seafood dishes. I was told that this was "the best in Prineville," but it didn't come close to living up to that, especially in quality, presentation, and portions. I will try again and hope this experience wasn't truly representative of what it's become. The food took 90 minutes to receive, so all meals were started before pictures could be taken. Next time, I will be better prepared, especially since it comes so highly recommended by friends of owners and staff. I wish I could say it was just a bad night, but it has become the norm. I highly recommend going to Barney Prine's. It puts this place to shame. There's a reason why Google Maps says, "Less busy than usual." Word of mouth spreads fast in a small town.

OK, upon request, I gave this place yet another chance. I told our server, Leah, that I had had a few previous bad experiences. She indicated that she would do what she could to make this visit better. The Steamer Clam appetizer was pretty good. The portion was adequate, and while the broth wasn't bad, it lacked memorable flavor. The Caesar side salad may have been the star of the show. It had great taste, and the plate was mounded with salad. This was nice, but it made it difficult to eat without having it cascade onto the table. The only draw back were the croutons. They had a distinct burnt flavor, so they were mostly set aside. Otherwise, it was quite good. The Salmon was flavorful and cooked nicely. It had a different maple flavor that, while different, wasn't bad. The Ribeye was cooked nicely. It wasn't seared well, and what little edge fat there was wasn't rendered fully. My complaint would be that this is supposed to be fine dining. A 12oz steak less than half an inch thick falls short of impressing. According to renowned chefs, a good Ribeye should be dry aged, at a minimum 16oz, and 1 1/2 inches thick. This definitely was not that. Other restaurants in town do much better at the same or less price. That said, I would return for another meal as this visit, while still lacking, was much better than the last. It's definitely an improvement, likely because of my talk with the waitress. I kept hoping that the owner would visit the table as he was milling about, bussing an occasional table. But, he only looked on from a distance. It is my understanding that he also owns Dillon's. After 3 horrible experiences in a row there, I don't think I will ever go back there. But, the Pioneer showed some hope tonight. I wish they cooked with ingredients worthy of their boasting of being the premier fine dining in town. If my next visit is this good or better, I may...

First of all, the food was absolutely fantastic, which is the only reason I’m giving this place 2 stars. My fiancé and I had a terrible experience with the bar staff and if we ever decide to go back we will not be served by Ashley or the other gals at the bar with severe RBF’s.

We walked into the bar side and were not greeted at all, when we sat down at the bar the first words spoken to us were “got your id’s on you?” And then “you’re eating dinner, yeah?” No “hello! Sit where ever you’d like, be right with you” none of that. We were never asked once “how is everything?” “You guys doing ok?” “Can I get you anything else?” We constantly had to ask Ashley (the bar manager apparently 🙄) for things servers should already have been providing us. We were not given any water until they decided to cut my fiancé off and dump his full beer down the drain after paying the entire tab plus an extremely generous 35% tip. He had to ask to be refunded for his tip but still paid the entire tab, including the full beer he did not get to drink. Idk how the serving staff are on the restaurant side but Ashley in the bar gets an “F”.

We had been enjoying another couple’s company having a great time until the very end. I’d understand cutting us off if we were being irate or too loud or drunkenly obnoxious but we weren’t and even if we were, go ahead and cut us off but don’t over-serve, charge us, take it back without warning and then don’t refund us for the drink. I don’t work in the serving industry but I know that’s not how you do it…

On another note, they were all “wearing” their masks around their chins the entire time. Also…not how you do that 🤷🏻‍♀️ I noticed the serving staff from the other side coming over fully masked so if they can do it, so can the bar side.

Overall, huge disappointment and will not return to the bar side until Ashley and the other bartenders go through some more...

Very pleasantly surprised at the excellent food and great service! Post made February, given 5 stars.... Unfortunently my second and third visit were not good. Visited in June...As in most other post on here, the service is HORRIBLE. Worst bartender EVER. I was actually yelled at over the bar while sitting at a table because the bartender didn't like my private conversation! So completely unprofessional! In what world does a worker in a restaurant think they have the right to yell at a customer!?! Called back to speak with owner or manager and was told that both owners are ill and haven't been in the place in weeks... In 3 visits I have witnessed the bartenders being beyond rude, mouthy and extremely disrespectful and inappropriate with customers and other staff. This does seem to be standard behavior for establishments in Prineville but I was really hoping there was at least one place where you could get decent food without all the idiocy but apparently not...even in the closest thing they've got to fine dining. Staff still asks like mouthy trailer trash... Booooo. Won't be...

Nice ambiance and really friendly service. I had the rattlesnake punch which was really really good and I had the captain's plate which I wish could say was the same but the Halibut was dried out and seem like it been laying around for hours and the jumbo prawns were rubbery and seemed like they had been severely overcooked. I was hoping it would all have been really nice and perfectly sauteed but it just seemed like it was overcooked 2 + Xtreme. Seemed to be drowned in lemon. Just not what I was expecting for a $25 plate. The veggies were good but definitely not able to carry the plate. Just disappointed. Not sure we will be back when we come back to town.

Update 8/2025. Still a good spot for lunch or dinner. Updated menu is nice. Been in a couple times for lunch and I am never disappointed, likely one of the nicer places to eat in Prineville. Atmosphere of a nice older restaurant that has been remodeled throughout. The menu has a nice selection of several different items that can please just about everyone. Dinner menu looks good and wholesome too. Service was very good with attentive staff. Prices are as expected for the food/quality you get. There is a full service bar there too. But, family friendly on the restaurant side. If I am hungry in Prineville this will be at the top of my list to eat at.
