I feel really bad giving a bad review here (this place was once good )but I don’t feel it’s fair for a bad night not to go unrecognized. Let’s just call it a bad night cause I’ve been to this place before and it was good but not tonight. Maybe it was Friday the 13th ? Well the evening started out with a wonderful with wonderful older lady Who was letting us see the dessert dishes, which was great because we got to choose our dessert first which may not ever have happened at the end..
Our waitress started out okay after the sweet lady left with a dessert tray. We got our drinks we got a refill and we never seen her again. I think Another waitress felt sorry for us and started filling our glasses and we assumed well, Maybe that first lady had to leave suddenly and they just forgot to put our order in . That wasn’t the case cause I ran across the lady at the very end who I assume was helping bust tables and cook the food . Forget the fact that we set for one and a half hours with only two glasses of tea ,forget the fact that the pork chops and the famous chicken Fried steak was well overcooked ,and forget the fact that we seen our waitress for a little bit and never after that But (we didn’t say anything) but got charged $60 for two people oh $63 cause there was a 3% charge on the convenience fee for using a credit card which they tell you about as soon as you come in the door (which one might consider a courtesy, warning, ) I don’t think it is the convenience fee that is given people the trouble here I believe our waitress left and took the cook with her, and everybody else was left Fin in for themselves , but that didn’t stop the gentleman setting at the cash register cause he was definitely taking that money. I believe I would’ve give the rating ones all the way across the board if it wasn’t for that sweet little lady passing out desserts, just being a wonderful ray of sunshine, and basically for warning me of the terror that was ahead . it’s like she knew or something but what a wonderful woman she was so sweet even though we only seen her for five minutesshe should be the spokesperson for getting the whole thing in order, that’s why I give more stars on the atmosphere. Anybody can have a bad day. Any restaurant can have a bad run . Hey look and it was Friday the 13th maybe we should’ve stayed home and not tried to venture out. or maybe if you’re going to run any of the front of the house by people who are never available you should probably come down on your prices so at least when you serve a crusty chicken fried steak, you don’t charge for a prime rib.
About the time they forget about this review will be about the time. I will show back up and give it another try granted I will give it another try but sometimes the worse, the experience the longer it takes me to come back.
PS Deep fry the chicken fry pull it a little earlier put it on the grill sometimes a tall cover lid for a few minutes will restore the softness of an over harden crust.
Sear the pork chop and pull it from the center heat actually if you have a grill, throw it up there and give it some grill marks,But whatever you do don’t put it in a deep fryer. And if it sits in the window under heat for a long, long, long, long, long time, pull that thing and never let it go out. Head cooks control the back of the house, which is just as important as the front of the house don’t let them dictate what the cook does because the result is terrible.. unless they can not cook . then start them with dishes . My money says the food was in the window and forgotten about, but that’s not all the waitresses fault one bad waitress does not serve the 3AM after the bar closed and go to the hot box gas station food.. The cook does. Did you come to the food service industry because you had to because you wanted to? If the answer was because you wanted to, then you have that passion and every single dish and every single night or it doesn’t go out...
Read moreWell, the place looks nice so I didn’t give it one star. At 5pm with only two waitresses on staff I ordered their signature Chicken Fried Steak meal with mashed potatoes and green beans at $11.99. (Fried Okra would have been an additional $1.29!) I added a side salad for $1.99 and a diet Dr Pepper for $2.59. They don’t have blue cheese dressing but had “everything else.” After a quick review of what “everything” meant I asked for honey mustard. I asked what was on it and was told lettuce and tomatoes. The waitress offered croutons so I got those. It came with a few carrot strings. But... I received ranch dressing not the honey mustard I ordered. The croutons were big and hard a la Walmart brand. Lots of lettuce with only one badly wilted piece. I never saw the waitress again until the CFS was delivered after I finished the salad so there was no way to get it corrected... unless I got up and went to her.
The presentation of the meal can on two dinner plates: the CFS filled one plate (looked nice) and the green beans and mashed potatoes looking lonely on another equally large plate. Honestly 2/3 of the CFS was hard, crispy batter. There was 2” on either end without any steak in it at all. The steak was thin, very much overcooked, and a little stringy. It easily separated from the batter and looked burnt. It was not good enough to finish. The green beans were watery and a little bland. The mashed potatoes were OK—at least not instant. Got one drink refill and my ticket was dropped with it. So no to-go drink or re-check on how everything was.
Checking out the man didn’t ask how things were so I didn’t tell him that it was one of the worst CFS’s I’ve ever had. Sad, because their building is adorned with Home of the Chicken Fry. I normally tip 20%+ but couldn’t bring myself to leave but $2 on an $18.96 ticket. Maybe they have better meals and service but I will not find out as I will not return. ☹️ Oh, and I just noticed! The total on my detail ticket was $18.23 including tax. I was charged $18.96 before the tip was added!! Talk about a...
Read moreI liked it but this last trip the waitress wasn't friendly at all. Otherwise everything else was great.
Update* last three times I've gone in they said that they was closing the front sitting area down and I had to sit at the 1 table the had available. Looking in the front area there was always like 5 groups sitting in there. I said I got four people and need a table where my back can be against the wall and he said i didn't have enough people for him to keep that area open when he already had around 10 to 15 to people in there. So I turn and look at the guy and he gives me the look either sit down or leave so we just left. I used to go here 2 or 3 times a month and spend 50 to 60 a trip. Lost all my business good food but the the the owner had gotten full of himself and 8 out of 10 times you get a horrible waitress. Best all around service is Ruby's now. 10/23 update: Tried it again... the service was slow but they was very busy. The lady was extremely friendly which i liked and was a pleasant change from the last couple times. I got the all you can eat catfish. The catfish was delicious and can't complain there but the jalapeño potatos was beyond nasty. They tasted like they had been reheated many times and was very old. I'm a big potato man i have a helping with just about every dinner no joke and these i ate one bite and had my wife try and she had to spit them out. The tea was so watered down you literally could barely taste it. The beans were alright but nothing to brag home about. My wife had a some kind of hamburger beef steak. I tried it.. it wasnt bad it tasted pretty good. A little too much liquid smoke for my taste but my wife will probably order it again of we...
