Sunday, 1/21/18, at 5pm I went to get dinner for my family. When I pulled in there was no one else there. I went through the drive-thru to order 1 1/2 lbs of turkey sliced thin, a pint of baked bean, potatoe salad, okra, and a bottle of BBQ sauce. After having to repeat that I wanted 1 1/2 lbs of turkey three times I didnt want the hassel of explaining I wanted an extra bottle of sauce. When I pulled up to the window the lady that took my order asked what kind of sauce I wanted, I told her just regular would be great. Paid for the meal and while handing my change she dropped some coins to the pavement and said “sorry dude.” I opened my car door and searched for the coins but gave up thinking they went under my car. Shortly she came back with my order and I pulled out.
Now, this is where I want to insert some background. We have been eating at Vans in Norman for 11 yrs every Sunday. They know us so much that they would drop a corn dog automatically for my young daughter when they saw The Browns come in the door. The Norman store is great. They accomodate everyone amazingly. Lisa takes great care of everyone in the dinning room! So when Lisa told us they were opening a store 15 mins from our house we were excited to say the least. But I can say that the Purcell store has cost the Norman store greatly. Whenever you keep having a bad experience at one store you dont want to go to the other ones.
A few blocks down the road I tell myself I had better check my order because everytime we try to eat at the Purcell store something is amiss. This time it was no BBQ sauce and the 1 1/2 lbs of turkey that I requested to be sliced thin was cut into 6 pieces that were greated than 1/2” wide. So I turn around and go back. I walk inside and a woman sees me and continues what she is doing until she says, “I guess I need to help him since I dont know where she went.” I ask the woman if BBQ sauce comes with the turkey and she says yes. Right then the drive thru lady walks up and immediately points a finger at the kitchen workers saying it was their responsibility. I dont care whos responsibility it was, it was missed. I expressed my thoughts on the incompetence of our experience everytime I come through this place and the lady that decided to help me said they were working to turn it around. That is sad and embrassing that she has to say that.
Mark, if this makes it to you, please address these few issues: Double check orders going out. Not only have we had issues with to-go orders but orders in the dinning room. Have a set price on the items. I worked across the street and would order an item one day and order the same exact thing the next day and it would be more expensive. When I ask Im told it must’ve been rang up wrong. Make sure your people do not look over special request like slice the turkey thin. The man at your norman store that has a pony tail is more than accommodating, maybe have him train your people. Its an easy request to fullfill. Make sure your workers here know that anyone of them can help the customer. Tonight while waiting to be addressed the two guys working in the kitchen both looked at me and continued what they were doing. No acknowledgement or even smile.
We have decided we wont be going back to the Purcell store. We are out of patience for that location. We will still go to the Norman location but not...
Read moreI like to eat at local places when I'm traveling, so when passing through Purcell, Oklahoma today I chose Van's Pig Stand. I've never heard of or seen it before, but it looked well managed and maintained, so I stopped in. I'm glad I did, and was pleasantly surprised to find out it's one of several in a regional chain. I like it when small businesses succeed - it's good for everyone.
You place your order and pick it up yourself at the counter, after which you receive your drink cup and proceed down a line to get sauce, utensils, fill your cup, etc. The self-service counter needs reorganization. As is, every customer returning for a drink has to compete for space with the folks who just ordered and are getting forks and sauce. It's a bottleneck and inconvenience.
The pork BBQ dinner I ordered was very good. The curly fries were nicely cooked - they are soggy and oily in many places I've been. The baked beans were... interesting, but I didn't really care for them. The taste seemed a little thin - like it had started with canned pork and beans, to which they added some random stuff.
My only real issue with the food was I thought the meat amount was insufficient. I think it needed about another 2 ounces (1/4 cup) to be a proper portion, given the $11 price tag. The amount I received is about what I would expect for a lunch portion - but with only one combo advertised, I think it was a bit light.
The sauces are tasty and obviously custom, but the bottles need to be labeled. I didn't know what to expect, so I tried them both. The yellow squeeze bottle is the spicy one, and very good. The red bottle holds a sweeter, milder, but similar tasting sauce. There was some type of relish in a bowl that might have been a pepper mix, might have been pickles... But without a label I wasn't going to commit. There was a third unlabeled sauce on the table, no idea if it was the same as one of those from the self-service line.
The entire establishment was clean, staff was friendly. Oh, and they give you a price break for paying with cash!
I recommend this business, and will return with my family, but hope the management will address some...
Read moreWe have ordered online twice and both times had issues. Most of the food is ok, except for the Vanized twice baked potato which looks like it was cooked 6 or 7 times over. On the first online order, I put in the order at around 2 pm with a pickup time of 6:15 pm, after work. When I came up to the drive through, the lady did not know of any order. I talked to the manager, who did find the order, but the food was not prepared. We had to wait for the order which is what I didn't want to do. On the second time, I set the online order for 15 minutes from then to avoid them missing my order. The site stated it was completed and showed the time it would be ready. On arriving this time, they cannot find the order. After checking for several minutes the lady said that it showed it was cancelled a couple of times. Fine. I go in to redo my order. We wanted two baked potatoes along with other meat and sides. It's after 6 pm on a week night and they have no baked potatoes ready. Really? One of the ladies offered to microwave one for me, which I declined. I tried the twice baked potato, but it wasn't worth the styrofoam container it was in. One of the ladies there did remember us from the previous issue, and yet no discount was offered for our repeated problems. I order online for the convenience. I understand that technology can be difficult to implement, but it does not work. Please REMOVE the online option for the Purcell Vans. It's very doubtful I will return to...
