We heard Mateo's just opened and we wanted to give it a try since it was so close to home. We went in and were the only customer's in the restaurant. The place was clean and looked fine inside, very little has changed since 997 Cafe closed. Everyone looked through the menu and they didn't have anything on the kids menu that they liked, so they found something on the regular menu. My wife ordered a Rice Bowl with shrimp, my daughter ordered a white rice shrimp bowl, my son ordered Asada Street Tacos and I ordered the Birria tacos with rice and beans. These are all things we order at other local restaurants. My daughter's came out wrong, my sons tacos came out with 2 different kinds of sauce on them, mine and my wife's were right. We order street tacos from a lot of places and the sauce it always on the side. When ordering we made sure to say white rice for my daughters and sauce on the side for my sons. My daughter's came out with spanish rice, we said something and they did fix the rice issue, but my son didn't eat because of the sauce. I knew they just opened and I didn't want to be a pain. The Birria was pretty good, but the rice was really bland. My daughter's white rice was not cooked all of the way and had a bunch of hard chunks in it. We may give it another try in the future, but will give it time to work out the kinks first. The bill was...
Read moreI found this place because I race at the adjacent RC racetrack and now I’m equally excited to go racing on the weekend as I am to try something new at Mateo’s. The food is truly surprising especially for a small restaurant in Quincy. I love to cook and have a hard time justifying eating at restaurants when my food is almost always better. But this place is crazy good. First thing I had was the chicken parm sub, which is the best I’ve had in my life, hands down. The cheesesteak is wildly good also, in the top half of my top 5. Chicken Caesar burrito sounds weird, but trust me, it is absolute fire! The French fries are world class, every side is exceptional (you gotta try the cheese risotto), the chips and salsa are perfection, I can’t oversell this place. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself...
Read moreStopped by for the first time today for lunch, and am glad I did. I ordered the Philly cheese steak ($16.00) with Mayo, fried onions and cheese sauce. It was absolutely delicious. It came with a side, in which I ordered the fries. I was also given chips & salsa ( free). Both the cheesesteak and fries are worth the money. The cheesesteak was very flavorful, as well as the fries being fresh & tasty. I also ordered a vanilla-Lavender milk shake which was amazing. The milk shake ( $7.00) is a 16 oz cup of love. I would recommend eating here if your in the neighborhood. I rated this place a 5 star because the food & shake was scrumptious, customer service was excellent, and the atmosphere...
