This is my second time ordering from Mr. Burrito. The first time, I tried a burrito with Tinga de Pollo, a small Café de Olla, and a side of garlic aioli. I lost my mind over how amazing it tasted, especially because I had never found a Latin American breakfast joint in the area in the ten years I’ve lived in the area.
The meat had a smoky taste and a kick to it. It contained the essential elements of good Tinga de Pollo. Trust me; I grew up in a traditional Mexican household where my mom cooked meals daily. The scrambled eggs were ample and fluffy. The potatoes were fried and well-seasoned. The beans were cooked thoroughly. The Pico de Gallo tasted fresh, and the acidity meshed well with the fried taste of the potatoes. The cheese was melted on the tortilla before adding all the other ingredients. The tortilla had grill marks to add a little toastiness to every bite.
I had never had Café de Olla before, but my God, the marriage between coffee and cinnamon was one of the biggest things I was missing out on my whole life. I didn’t need to add creamer or sugar to it because it tasted so delicious.
On 7/18/2024, I went again, and it did not miss. It did not skip a beat. I didn’t have to wait long (to place or receive my order), and the lady who took my order was very kind. I ordered a burrito with Tinga de Pollo, and it was exactly as described above. I ordered a small Café de Olla, and, for comparison, it tasted just as amazing as what I had tried during my trip to Oaxaca, MX, and CDMX in November 2023. I ordered a side of Chipotle Cream, which was the perfect finishing touch for my burritos. It was creamy and with enough of a kick to elevate the flavors of my burrito, especially that of the potatoes.
Overall, I will be back, and I am set on trying their Chorizo option. I’ve heard great things. I could not order it this morning, but only because the lady said that her mom needed to make a new homemade batch. That’s right, homemade, not store-bought....
Read moreThis is one of the best places to get a meal in Raleigh. The vibes are awesome, they play great music and create a wonderful atmosphere and they literally pause the music when you come up to order so you don’t have to talk over it which I love!! Then once you’re done they crank it back up. It’s great. The women who run it are incredibly sweet and insanely talented cause their breakfast burritos are the best Raleigh has to offer, period. They get real busy and you might have to wait 10-15 after ordering but the vibes are there and right next door is wildflower hemp co so u can pop over and grab some flower or even smoke some on their outdoor patio while you wait ;). Parking can be a little stressful when it’s busy but that would never deter me from coming lol. Wish I could give these ladies 6 stars we all need to support them! Nothing better than amazing breakfast food, Mexican themed coffees, good music and lots of ouid close by. I get the chicken burrito with chipotle cream sauce with salsa roja on the side and an iced coffee, today tres leches...
