Read moreThis remote, but not very hidden, spot north of Santa Ysabel is well worth your time to visit for good food, cold, wet beer, great live music and a family-friendly, dog. Friendly place to spend time.
This is a popular place for motorcycle clubs, classic cars, and folks on the road. Road. Is not a biker bar, and is actually as family friendly as their website suggests. It just plain is.
This is a dog friendly location. This means if you have a dog that is well behaved, and you are a responsible person, your dog is welcome. Welcome. The outdoor seating area includes areas on dirt, and that's where responsible people will have their dogs anyway...
The live music is excellent, I haven't seen a cover charge involved, the acoustics are great because it's outdoors and a relatively small venue, and they don't have to blast the volume stupid hard.
The beer and wine list is extensive, and competent. I'll post a of the beer list part.
The food is excellent, crafted by somebody who cares about what they're making, and fairly priced. There really aren't very many, if any, vegetarian options other than french fries, however.
The staff are friendly, cheerful, and smart. This is a good place.
Parking is along both sides of the road, mostly for bikes, and in two small parking lots. One is directly across the street and slightly below the road; the other is just east of the main buildings on the same side of the street as the Hideout.
Outdoor seating includes wooden tables, some of which have shade umbrellas. There are also picnic tables underneath a large shade structure.
Indoor seating includes countertop, height, tables and bar stools, and a bar.
The bathrooms are single seaters, but kept clean. You are part of keeping it clean, so don't drop the ball on...
Read moreI'll give this place one more chance at an earlier time. I stopped here for a late lunch at around 2:00pm. That was probably my first mistake as they were already out of pulled pork.
First, I seated myself outside and waited for almost 10 minutes and still no service. I decided to move to a different table and that must have been the magic trick. I was waited on finally. I looked over the menu and a couple of items were already scratched out.
I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, but we already know what happened to that, so I ordered there Tip sandwich. It wasn't particularly hot when it came out. It tasted okay, but talk about a smallish order. I'm used to eating at a lot of different BBQ places and the sandwiches are usually piled so high that I could save some for dinner. The order of fries that came with it were small also. I just paid half what I paid here for lunch at a place back in Norfolk and got twice as much food.
My thoughts on all if this us that after a certain time of lunch at this place they start to run out of food and then short the amount they put on your plate. I will test this theory next time I go. I am putting together the first group ride of the year and this was the planned lunch stop. I will try it again and see if my hunches are correct, if they do better earlier then we'll make this the stop and they can make good money from the group I bring through, if not, then either Fat Ivors, Fallbrook BBQ, or Rong Branch gets our business
More to come after...
