After having a very disappointing experience at a hoity-toity tavern in Charleston yesterday (average food, way above average prices, small portions, the reviews lied!) I wanted as "hole-in-the-wall" local as possible. So I decided to check out all the places on 17 from Charleston to Savannah (our route for our trip) that sold burgers. Genesis Le Blue Water is an interesting name so I checked out the menu. We were intrigued!
We were greeted so cheerfully by Maxine (I think that's her name). We were the only ones there at the time (around 3pm). Immediately loved the music and the casual atmosphere. It's small...I can imagine it can be loud when it's full. But itwas just what I wanted. We were a little disappointed because they've changed their menu from the one listed on Google, but when we mentioned we really wanted the Blue burger, she said she could make that happen even though it wasn't on the new menu. (New menu seems like it doesn't have a much as the old but I could be wrong). I ordered the sea food rice plate. Both were great, especially the sauce on the burger. I appreciated the big portions.
Because they were not busy we got to chat with Maxine and Jennifer for a bit, and that was a treat! I was shocked when they told me the Blue cheese on the burger had been melted into their own BBQ sauce, because I dislike BBQ sauce but man, that was tasty! I would've bought a bottle if I wasn't flying home.
If we lived local, we would be regulars. Instead, we're just thankful they were there to make up for the pretension in Charleston....

On the drive my wife found Genesis. We didn't look at reviews, we didn't look at the menu, we just pulled up, parked and sat down. The staff was immediately warm and welcoming and made us both smile so much.
I did the 2 pork chops, my wife did the boil. Both of us are floored by the soul food, southern cuisine, and hospitality. The portions are very generous, I was full after the first chop but it was so good I had to eat the second.
I am so, so glad we had the opportunity to stop in. I hope somebody somewhere is driving in the area and sees this review and comes in. Locals, y'all have a real...
Read moreFound this place because I was looking for some flounder and saw the pictures of rhe wings. We got there late and they were still accommodating and we did not feel rushed. They are family owned and they cook with love.
The wings were crispy and seasoned well. We had the jerk rub, lemon pepper, Carolina gold and bourbon.
Wife and I had the flounder platter with red rice, mac and cheese, corn bread, string beans and cucumbers and tomatoes salad. Everything was so good felt like home cooking.
My brother had the shrimp platter and he loved his food as well.
We will make this a regular when we are back in South Carolina. We definitely recommend this place when you are in the...
