The Crawfish Hut Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Rayne

We ended up stopping here by accident after an unexpected interstate detour on our way to Lafayette. It’s just a short drive south from the interstate. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The staff were very polite and attentive. We ordered the boudin eggrolls for an appetizer which was amazing!!! I had the Crawlicious Cajun Pasta. The portion was very generous. I thought it was good but definitely lacked in flavor. For a Cajun dish at a Cajun restaurant I really expected more flavor compared to the very light cream sauce I received. However, the dish had plenty of crawfish and sauce so I really don’t think my personal preference should take away from all of the positives this dish had to offer. My son had the fried shrimp which was excellent! I can attest that it was fresh shrimp that was deveined and battered in-house- not the pre-battered frozen shrimp that comes from wholesale food delivery trucks. My daughter got the shrimp poboy which she said was also excellent. My husband got the boiled shrimp. He said they were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. My family and I decided to check out The Crawfish Hut on a Saturday evening around 5:30. We were greeted and seated quickly by a friendly hostess, and the place started to fill up shortly after. We really enjoyed the live music from Mike Broussard—he did a great job, and the volume was perfect. It added to the atmosphere without making conversation difficult.

Our waitress took great care of us and had our appetizers out fast. We tried the boudin egg rolls, crawfish wontons, and mac and cheese bites. The crawfish wontons and mac and cheese bites were absolutely fantastic—crispy, flavorful, and a great start to the meal. The boudin egg rolls were just okay in comparison.

Our entrées came out hot and quickly. I had the crawfish enchiladas, and they were outstanding. The portion was huge—I could only finish one and brought the rest home. My wife and son split the crawfish pasta and still had leftovers. Everything was seasoned well and delicious.

The only downside was the restroom—it’s a bit small for such a busy place.

Under new management, now Tom's kitchen. Atmosphere is great with a family and wheelchair friendly indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable on the menu and food. The poor review is purely from the quality of and selection of food. The mix of Chinese and Cajun food is what drew our attention to the new restaurant. However, sadly the food had little selection of food that was obviously sitting out for sometime.

The price was on par with local prices and the crawfish prices at the time was better than most...
