From The Hearth Kitchen and Pie Shop - College View — Restaurant in Redding

I’m revisiting this review because I think my 3 star wasn’t fair. Nobody can be perfect all the time and I had one disappointing experience. They have consistently good quality and service. Early in the pandemic when they started taking delivery orders for staples like bread, cheese, meats, etc.one of the owners was out doing deliveries himself. I’ve ordered from one of their other establishments and also had food delivered by an owner... not every owner cares that much, but they do. That’s what you can expect from them, and that’s what they’ve shown over and over. A commitment to doing a great job and that is what they should be reviewed for.

Here’s my original review which is technically accurate but not representative of their high standards.

The food is good but the menu is limited and don’t try to order off-menu. For example, our family’s Valentines Day tradition since having kids is going to FTH and getting French Toast. They no longer have regular French Toast on the menu. I asked if they could make it and was told that only make the “Mascarpone-Stuffed Croissant French Toast” now. They have bread, they have eggs, they have all of the other ingredients but won’t do it. Even McDonalds does...

What happened to the great desserts!?!

I live very nearby so this was a staple for the past 4 years. When I re-emerged from Covid lockdowns and semi-lockdowns, I was surprised to find that all of my favorite yummy desserts had been discontinued. I've tried the new lineup and am not a fan... at all. In fact, people have told me they changed ownership. The baked goods are so different that people think the original owners sold, which the counter staff told me is not the case. Where is the chocolate? They had the best chocolate croissants! Whaaa! I've tried the new chocolate thing. I can't believe that I threw it away. I thought "Why am I eating all these calories when it isn't even good?" I tried the pecan thing with the chocolate on the crust. Why would I want to eat a big gob of sugar just to get a thin layer of chocolate? When it comes to desserts and pastries there just isn't anything there anymore that is amazing.

Now they still make great burgers and salads. You just have to go somewhere else if you want a great dessert or pastry. Considering that they used to be known for their desserts and pastries, it's a pretty big deal that they don't have good...

This is actually the first time I had ate in. Most of the staff is very nice. I was seated in the two-seater that is right by where the food is put up. I feel the need to mention the amount of flies that landed on the food. I told one of the young men but he said "that there was nothing they could do". I apologize but I am not a Karen. Having worked in restaurants on my life, I would really like to make a suggestion. A mesh cloche, they're available in many places, Amazon carries a variety of colors and sizes. It would only take maybe two three extra seconds to cover it up. I went ahead and told one of the employees so they could pass it on to the manager. He didn't seem very interested so I thought maybe I would pass it on. It was really kind of gross to watch. Your food is too delicious to let fly as ruin it. I imagine the people from across the room couldn't tell, but just seeing that I really couldn't eat...
