Look at the photos. Now back at this review. Now back at the photos. Now back here.
We both know where you are are eating tonight.
You shouldn't believe me, you should go yourself. Never mine that have eaten at some of the nicest restaurants across the country. 5 stars to me means, I would go back, and I would recommend to others who enjoy nice food and restaurants.
And yes, the Jellyfish tank is real, and even more hypnotizing in real life. If the weather is nice, get a seat outside and enjoy the view of the boats. Pro-tip, get there a bit before sunset so you can enjoy the wonderful colors in the sky, while you dine on one of the nicest meals you'll have all year.
Now, on to the food. To start? Get the Warm Milk Bread and the Sea Scallop. They are separate, but anybody smart will know to get them together, because after you finish the scallop, you can dip the bread.
For who enjoy libations of the spirituous sort, you'll be happy. Order what sounds good, and your expectations will be exceeded. For the martini drinkers, get the olives stuffed with blue cheese.
From the Hearth, I enjoyed the Whole Roasted Dorade; the fried rice is will not disappoint and the fish is great. I also enjoyed an entree of the Red Win Braised Beef Short Rib and let me tell you, I wish I could have had more.
The Grilled filet of Beef will make you happy, but honestly, splurge and get the Wagyu. Because if you're going to go to a restaurant of this caliber, holding back is a mistake.
So many sides to choose from, let me make it more difficult by telling you how good they are.
The Onion Rings were legitimately the best I've ever had, the Spaetzle Gratin also incredible (though a bit duplicative with the beef fat potatoes that come with the grilled filet of beef). That's not to say you shouldn't get them, but if you're eating the filet, it's a lot of potatoes!
I'm a fan of mushrooms and was pleasantly surprised with the roasted wild mushrooms, because I tend to have low expectations for both mushrooms and anything Truffle flavored these days. Truffle is a little like perfume, best discovered, not announced, and these mushrooms just nailed it on all fronts.
To round the evening, I enjoyed a de-cafe espresso martini, as well as several dessert. People get tend to get a bit pick on desert - so I'll just say order whatever you liked. Not because they are bad, rather because I had so many I couldn't choose between them!
If you're lucky, you'll get Alejandro as a server. He was kind enough to walk us through the menu and help us make excellent suggestions. The rest of the staff was incredible as well and you'll be luck with whomever you end up with. (Like anything, be nice to people, and they tend to be nice back!)Now to the downside, I live in SoCal and it it tough to go back! But seriously, bring your friends. You won't regret it.
In short? Come here, bring your lover, your family, your clients, and you'll knock their socks off - even if they didn't bring any.
NOTE: This was not written with AI, I took the time out of my day to write this review, unpaid. (I also paid for the meal) It...
Read moreAs 2024 ends, Hurrica becomes my favorite Bay Area restaurant. Came back for our fourth visit, second time for dinner. We were recognized by the staff, which always pleases and impresses. On a chilly night, the place feels warm and cozy. I get lost, wondering if the jellyfish know what they’re doing or if they’re having fun, circling the tank.
Anyway, we had another fabulous meal. The Milk Bread is always a little different with the spreads, so it’s a must-order with the cocktails. The Swordfish was practically perfect, with a combination of tastes and textures to explore. The Short Rib was immense. My partner would have liked more vegetables, but she still loved it. Can’t wait to come back!
First review:
Beautiful new space in a still under development area. Service is absolutely impeccable from start to finish, equivalent to anything San Francisco has to offer. The wine-by-the-glass list has many options.
Brought my partner and a friend for a weekday lunch. The lunch menu favors lighter dishes (and lighter prices!). Unfortunately, you won’t find Milk Bread for lunch, but they offer Sourdough Bread service - just ask them to cut all the way through or you’ll destroy it trying to separate the slices. Both of my companions got the Tiger Prawn Salad, and to our amazement they both finished every bite, saying it was one of the best salads ever! I had the Tuna Tartare (pictured), which was beautifully presented with minimal seasoning except for the natural taste of the components. It’s probably insufficient for most people’s idea of lunch, but it worked for me. We shared a Chocolate Bread Pudding, another wonderfully deconstructed dessert. Lunch ran us about 2/3 the price of dinner, and the beautiful setting always makes it worthwhile.
Our dinner experience was a little mixed. Since there was no way the two of us could share a single Broiled Live Sea Scallop, we ordered two. Although the scallops are a little on the small size, they were incredibly tender, except the flavor was overwhelmed by the garlic. Next up was the Tiger Prawn Cocktail, which except for the cocktail sauce was overall disappointing. The large prawns, overcooked to being chewy, are presented leaning in a large salad bowl with cocktail sauce pooled at the bottom. I just thought that odd. We finished with the Slow Roasted Pork Chop, which was amazing yet totally deceiving because it is served like a rack of loin. So, despite leaving satisfied, our experience was a bit up and down, and we’ll have...
Read moreThis restaurant gets a lot of hype; however, there are some serious issues that need to be addressed. I have dined here on multiple occasions, and during my last three visits, random items were added to my bill. At first, I thought they might have given me another table’s bill, but when this happened a second and third time, I knew exactly what they were up to. They are intentionally adding items to bills, hoping customers won’t check.
During each instance, I looked at the itemized receipt and noticed multiple (3–5) random items added to my tab that I never ordered. These checks weren’t from a different table; they were our actual tab as all other items were correct. When I confronted the waiter each time, they immediately deflected to their manager, who always seemed to blow it off like it wasn’t a problem. Never was there an apology, nor an explanation as to how this could keep happening. Another thing I noticed was that when they brought me the updated bill, they took away the itemized receipt. Nice play... for diners who didn’t check the itemized receipt and just handed over their credit card, the restaurant simply pocketed those extras. These slimy actions need to be addressed.
Additionally, over the course of my 1.5 hour meal, I had over three different waiters. There was no formal hand-off between them and I had no idea who to approach if I needed something. This made the entire dining experience confusing and stressful. I expected the waiter(s) to come back and check in on us multiple times throughout the meal; instead, I had to track them down just to ask for more water. How could a fine dining restaurant fail at even the basics of service? Shameful.
The food and view are the only “good” (and that’s being generous) parts about this place. But $12 for four bite-sized pieces of bread with fancy butter (and paying for refills, seriously?) Combined with the atrocious service and shady business practices, there’s no way I’d return to...
