I'm updating this review just to reaffirm my love for G's Dairy. The consistency of the ice cream is absolutely perfect and theirs hits the spot in a way that has no competition in Rexburg. Still reasonably priced all these years later, at least compared to, say, the rise of the cost of a Kit-Kat bar.
I appreciate them even more in light of grocery store offerings cutting corners in quality to maintain cost levels. In the US, Haagen-Dazs and B&J started cutting their cream with coconut oil, and it's just not worth the cost to me when I can get just as much that gives me so much more glee. Plus, the location as someone on this side of town is still awesome all these years later.
It really makes me happy that G's is still here all these years later, and is one of the very few indulgences around that still tastes just as good as it used to. Their success is a testament to good ice cream. May the good Lord never take it away from us, and thanks to the folks who've done a wonderful job keeping this place as good as ever. Looking forward to many more calories ahead!
Protips: the half gallons were $11 last I checked. It's the single best bargain in Rexburg, as far as this man is concerned. That's $2.75 a pint, and there ain't nothing that good at that price at Albertsons or Dairy Queen. The ice cream is universally delicious: texture is velvety and unmistakeably "the real deal" with that classic slight sponginess of a good batch without cream substitutes or other crap or a ton of air added to it.
But it's best when you get to grab some cones: their waffle cones are BOMB here and I get one every time. Lately I've been getting Unicorn Poop or Cotton Candy, which are flavors I've never gotten in ice cream that's this good. It's awesome. And they get new flavors in/rotate though all the time.
G's is a Rexburg treasure. I started coming here back in like 2007 when we used to go to World Gym and then proceed to undo the hour of exercise. The ice cream is very good. As of late I go for the half-gallons. $10.50 for the equivalent of four pints that wipe the floor with grocery store offerings.
My favorite changes frequently but right now, huckleberry cheesecake has my heart. It's incredible. Fresh and tasty with real...
Read moreG’s dairy has some of the best ice cream in eastern Idaho. I’d even say in some aspects I’d prefer it over reeds dairy ice cream. However, their prices and servings are absolutely ridiculous. The single scoop I’d say is priced fair but when you compare it to the itty bitty which is half the price for one spoonful of ice cream I’m in shock.
I got the itty bitty for my 4yr old who was visibly upset when I handed her one bite possibly two bites worth of ice cream compared to my satisfactory serving of ice cream. For half the price I was assuming it would be a half scoop of a single scoop. But nope it was served in a condiment cup. Basically the sample cups for frozen yogurt.
It’s such a shame because the ice cream is awesome but not worth the potential tantrum. Luckily one kiddo was asleep in the car so my daughter was able to get a larger serving of ice cream because she got two itty bitty servings. But even two itty bitty servings are not worth the half price of a single scoop.
So disappointing waste of money. Don’t get your kiddos itty bitty servings just order a single and have them share it. Just ridiculous to pay over two dollars for a sample...
Read moreI took my daughter to enjoy one of our favorite indulgences....Reeds Dairy ice cream. The minute I tasted it, I knew something was "off". The ice cream was absolutely tasteless and had ice crystals in it. it was mocha brownie...I couldn't taste the mocha, and I think I got one, maybe two brownie bites. While we were sitting out in the parking lot feeling disappointed with our $4 sub-par sundaes, I called on my cell phone and asked if they still carried Reeds ice cream. They said "no", and that they now make all their ice cream in-house. I CAN understand why they'd make such a move--buying premium, locally made ice cream can't be as profitable as making your own. Sorry to say, selling tasteless, sub par ice cream isn't good for the bottom line either. From the other reviews that are commenting about their stale waffle cones, apparently they are cutting corners on those two. What a disappointment. They've lost our business for sure.
p.s. making your own ice cream COULD be awesome...if you...
