Have been going to Alcamo almost from the beginning when Vinnie opened it. Back then it was great before the expansion. Then Vinnie opened up his second restaurant in Hellertown and slowly started moving his attention to Bella's. His father now has control over Alcamo's and it has continually gone down hill since then. For all the people who have written how great it is, you probably didn't experience Alcamo's when it really was great. The food now is mediocre at best. They don't know the difference between a Kaiser roll and a hamburger roll. When asked to do a simple substitution such as taking the Italian sausage hero and instead of putting in the roll putting on some pasta. The hero is like $8 I figure maybe I'd get charged an extra dollar or two, nope they wanted to charge like it was a dinner so the girl said it was gonna be $16 which she didn't tell me until I got there to pick up the order. When I said that was ridiculous she only offered to remove it from the order. Wouldn't get the manager or Vinnie's father to make any kind of changes. The father just wants to sit there and watch TV. Its a shame they had such a good thing going for a small...
Read moreAddendum: hit or miss. Their salad dressings need work. They "upcharge" on blue cheese (and other things -- yeh, I get it) with wings but it's the chintziest blue cheese on Earth -- why is this an issue :is blue cheese breaking your bank???? I will buy you some to make a better dressing! One time I thought it was just whipped oil with a few crumbs of chz. The caesar dressing is similar. Maybe they keep a secret reserve in a vault or something for more frequent customers.
Alcamo has great Italian food, better than others. Take out or dine-in (really nice dining room, low lit and marvelous artistic inlaid tables and sturdy booths); and, they deliver. The wings are incredible, huge, meaty, and even a plain Pizza is so cheesy. Their marinara is spot on. Salads are hardy and filling. Creative pasta dishes made with care. The personal Stromboli is enough for 4 people. Great weekday specials. Staff is hometown friendly, service is quick...
Read moreWe loved our recent experience at Alcamo! We were here once before, 9 years ago, and then we moved closer to another BYOB, Bella’s. When they closed, we tried out their replacements in Hellertown, but were sadly disappointed. We finally returned to Alcamo and it felt like eating at Bella’s all over again. Delicious Italian food with very large portions. The garlic bread is the best ever! The atmosphere is casual, but that makes it more family friendly and the menu is extensive from sandwiches, pizza or pasta dishes. My husband loved the calamari. He ordered the tortellini carbonara, but upgraded to a pink vodka sauce; he loved it and I tried it as well, very delicious. I ordered the veal scallopini, but with chicken instead of veal. I was overwhelmed with how delicious my dish was. We didn’t have room for dessert and brought home leftovers. I plan to return soon and bring my family along with me! Oh and our server Paige...
