Although Yamato Steak House of Japan couldn't replace our first choice for Japanese food, it’s worth a visit if you’re craving hibachi. The menu offers a good variety, and the hibachi dishes are flavorful with generous portions. The overall dining experience was enjoyable, but a few but easy to correct issues stood out.
The clear soup (or “onion soup”) was overwhelmingly salty—like being hit by an ocean wave—and was a disappointing start to the meal. Traditionally, this soup is a light and flavorful broth designed to awaken the palate without overwhelming it. It should strike a balance between savory umami flavors and subtle seasoning, with just a hint of richness from ingredients like onions, garlic, and ginger. Additionally, the service was lacking; we only saw our waiter once during the entire visit. It was explained that staffing was short, with just one waiter covering the whole restaurant, which was understandable but still left drinks unfilled and made it difficult to ask for sauces or assistance.
That said, the ambiance was excellent. As a new restaurant, Yamato boasts a fresh and inviting atmosphere, which added to the dining experience and made it feel welcoming.
While it may not be our top choice, Yamato Steak House of Japan is a decent option. With a little more attention to service and consistency, it has the potential to become a favorite spot in the area.
In time we will return as this is a new restaurant to the Richlands, Va area. Where an updated review...
Read moreI placed a to go order and was told it would be 20 to 30 minutes. When I go to pick it up it actually ended up being an hour. I looked in the bag….I had ordered a yaki and chicken dinner assuming it came with rice like every other Japanese Restaurant I’ve been to. I had even asked if it had rice, but that was when I was placing my other order for chicken and shrimp. Of course I assumed rice would come with both. Not this place! The girl on the phone failed to mention that yaki and chicken automatically comes with noodles. I think that’s something that should be made clear, especially since I’d already asked if rice came with the other meal. I had to keep telling them I wanted rice so finally they gave me a side of it for $5 added to my bill!! It was quite small as well!! I told them I shouldn’t have to pay for it, but all I got was a dirty look from the Japanese lady, who apparently can’t speak English!!! I can’t say how the food is since I’ve not eaten it yet. I wrote this review first because I was...
Read moreThis is a new place to eat in the area and hasn't been open very long. Went around 2 p.m. on a Saturday and no wait. Waiter was quick to get order and to bring food. Main meal made it before the appetizer. Lunch special was a great portion, filet mignon very tender. I asked for a side salad and it was in a large bowl, very surprising. I thought it was going to be a miniature bowl but it was not. Ginger dressing was absolutely delicious. Atmosphere was enjoyable, noise level was tolerable & decor authentic. They have the hibachi grill open to where you can see the food being prepared. Bathrooms clean & found that the restaurant was cleanly overall. Staff were welcoming & pleasant. Menu has a wide variety of choices for drinks & food. Highly recommend a visit, especially when looking for something different. Inside seating a little cramped, but I'm sure they would do their best to accommodate someone who has any mobile...
