East Brother Beer and Taproom is a newly opened brewery and pub hidden deep within an industrial complex in Richmond near Point Richmond, Marina Bay, Coronado, and Santa Fe neighborhoods.
Hours are limited - W-F late afternoon until mid-evening, S-S Noon until mid-evening.
Some pre-packaged snacks are sold by East Brother, but no food is prepared onsite. In order to provide a fuller experience, East Brother has arranged for local food trucks to park right outside their front door on Saturdays and Sundays. They're have a pizza maker lined up for Friday's - just waiting for a health department OK. Although they don't have a food source for W-Th, they hope that they'll be popular enough - despite limited hours - to attract a food trucks soon.
You can't see them from the street! But they do put up portable signs on Canal Blvd when they're open - with arrows so you can find them.
Free WiFi is offered (secure, and the current password is posted on the menu board behind the bar), but seems to have ZERO bandwidth - my internet speed checker never got beyond "Finding the best server"
I saw no bike racks. Admittedly, the only time I've been there was after sunset. And they DO allow bikes into their cavernous space. Dogs also seem welcomed.
Their brewery is in full view - and tastefully illuminated with blue lights after dark.
The beer -- well, how to say this kindly -- shows promise. But the enthusiasm with which they discuss their beers and their plans promises improvement.
They have one TV - tuned to sports on my visit. TV doesn't dominate, but for people who want to watch a game in a taproom, there's plenty of seats inside - mostly at the bar - which have a good view.
There is an indoor ping-pong table, another game inside that I didn't recognize, and a very long sandbox outside with some sort of scoring apparatus. Perhaps for horseshoes (but I didn't see any horseshoes or target stakes)? It's about the size of a Bocce court - but I didn't thing Bocce is played on sand! A puzzlement ... I'll ask next time I'm there!
Prices are reasonable - $7-8/pint. 4 oz samplers...
Read moreHorrible experience while buying a keg, had it for a wedding and was not able to use it, beer was not flowing out, not too sure if it was the venue or the keg. Called the East brothers on what to do and they said to call back in 10 minutes, called again and no answer. After the wedding they were closed for two days, then when I go to return it, the manager was not able to return anything. Made me sound like I was in the wrong and blaming me for it not working. Was not understanding at all, did not offer any type on compensation until I asked, the keg beer I paid for was 150 dollars and he said he is not going to be able to resell it, which I understand but as a company I would think you would give options or even return the 150 since I am bringing the whole keg back in full. After asking multiplies times what can be done, manager gave me a gift card a 4 pack if beer. So I paid 150 dollars for a 4 pack of beer. Ultimately disappointed in this company, thought they would take care of their customers but instead did not accommodate or even try to understand. 150 dollars for this type of company is nothing compared to what I make, and I feel robbed, never coming...
Read moreOne of the best breweries in the bay. I was holding off on giving a review as I stopped going here for a while because of the lack of customer service. I came back a year later and I’m glad to say it’s improved.
Beers are anything from IPA’s to traditional German and at times English. For reference I hate IPA’s so I am reviewing the great non IPA beers. They usually will serve some beer that can only be sold on draft exclusively at the brewery where most of the beers can be purchased at liquor stores in cans. But as every beer drinker knows it’s better in draft.
The inside is great and spacey with lots of large tables. Plenty of games and kid friendly both in and outside. The outside is especially great as there is a long narrow area with a fire pit, tables, and no cars can drive down it besides the food truck. I usually have my kid playing with a ball or scooter down this area and feel completely safe about it.
Overall amazing beer, great ambiance, and very family friendly. Btw I am very picky in beer so this a god review for me and I have been to most of the...
