It’s not all the hype… We booked Stampede BBQ for our wedding and entire planning process from the beginning was an uphill battle with their “Event Coordinator” who happens to be the owner’s daughter. She’s a very sweet girl, but was often unreliable via email and would go weeks without communicating with us when we were in the middle of making key decisions for our wedding menu. After hearing from others who had previously booked them for their weddings, most said to us that their food was pretty good, but almost always finished by saying that they did not always communicate in the most understanding and reliable fashion.
We never received any formal invoices throughout the entire process, and it wasn’t until I had to ask for one that one was thrown together for us. At one point near our wedding date, there was a discrepancy with our final total in which we wanted to speak directly to the owner to try to understand where the discrepancy was and how to resolve it. Instead of trying to help us understand the issue and help us come to a resolution, the owner was extremely rude and disrespectful and yelled at us for not understanding how “per-guest calculations” are determined and that we should really know better. I’m still shocked at how the entire situation was handled.
I’ll finish by saying that while the food at our wedding was delicious, the process of getting to that point was long and difficult and almost made me question whether we made the right decision for our wedding caterers. I would recommend thinking long and hard about what is most important when it comes to your wedding planning process with Stampede BBQ as your wedding caterers – great food or unreliable and discourteous...
Read moreRight, let’s break this down. Atmosphere: 5 out of 5—the place is charming, no doubt. You walk in, and it’s like stepping back to the late 1800s. A rustic, quaint feel, and I’m all for that. Just know, it's first come, first served, so get there early or you’ll be waiting.
Now, the food? 3 out of 5. The pork ribs had a lovely savory rub, and they were tender, I’ll give them that. But the spicy BBQ sauce? Come on! Where’s the fire? I was expecting a kick, and all I got was a whisper. The fries were solid because they were crispy, salty, spot on. The hush puppies? Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, exactly how they should be. But the macaroni? Tasted like something you'd pick up at the store.
As for the price, we’re looking at $$, so it’s affordable, but the rib prices? A bit high for what you get.
Service: 3 out of 5. It was quick, I’ll give them that. But the experience? It’s like a Panera with a fob. You order, sit down, and they bring it to you. Efficient, but there’s no personal touch.
And don’t get me started on the parking: 2 out of 5. Absolute disaster if you’re there during peak hours. Good luck.
Vibe: 4 out of 5. I’ve got to hand it to them, the young men dressed in period clothing at the bar were a nice touch. It added to the whole rustic feel, which worked well with the atmosphere.
Overall? Some highs and lows, but it needs a bit of fire in that BBQ sauce and a...
Read moreLet me start by saying this is a positive review and I write this to be helpful to other couples who might travel to the area looking for a more adult atmosphere. If you want romantic or a more intimate setting, this is not your restaurant (which could be a plus for a lot of people).
We went for "date night". It is a gorgeous building, has beautiful holiday decorations, and a roaring fireplace. Despite the decor, I would not decribe the atmophere as romantic. On a Friday night, it was packed with families with younger children. With the bright lighting in the dining area, and the awkward Old Time Christmas music, it felt more like an all-you-can-eat buffet atmosphere on a discounted night than a nicer restaurant. I am happy for people who like this vibe. It just didn't resonate with us.
Stampede is not the place to go if you are looking for pre-dinner cocktails. They had 3 beer selections and 1 cider on tap the night we went. They do have PA sourced liquors available, which might be a plus for some people. The bartender was incredibly nice. I just didn't care for the cider and felt like there weren't other selections to try.
The focus is on good food, not the bar (which might be perfect for people who don't drink). If you are looking for more of a family style place versus a romantic night out, I highly recommend Stampede. All the elements are there. It just wasn't our vibe...
