While the restaurant and history are quite interesting that's about where the good ends with this place. The $11 meal I got was okay but lacking in sauce. My chicken was supposed to have garlic butter sauce but came out dry after waiting more than 40 mins for our meals. With our waitress it was good luck actually finding her/seeing her esp for refills of empty drinks. We spent over 10 minutes looking for her shortly after she dropped off the food. We didn't see her again until nearly 20 mins later. When we asked for more sauce, from a different waitress, as my dish had none we were told it was cooked in sauce. My chicken tasted like dry chicken, no sauce. There wasn't even a tell tale sign of oil or anything underneath my chicken breast to indicate it was cooked in anything. However, they did bring out some extra. And after asking if it was plain butter the other waitress told us that they don't have garlic to add to the butter so it was just plain butter. If you don't have garlic how can you possibly have a garlic butter sauce? Might I add this was the only sauce guaranteed to be gluten free. The options for my particular dietary needs was very very small. In this day and age I should be able to eat more than just a salad option at a restaurant. Instead I had a dry chicken breast, reheated frozen vegetables (mushy), and some actually good mashed potatoes served with butter. Sadly, the potatoes were the best part of my meal. One that typically costs nearly $20 on regular nights! Beyond that, our waitress was rarely present. Did not ask if we wanted a refill and mention that they charge for them. She also failed to mention that my change in my order from pasta (contains gluten) to mashed potatoes (gluten free) was going to charge me a dollar extra! Potatoes are cheaper than pasta but she didn't even bother to say so when I changed it because I can't eat the pasta without nearly dying from side effects. I should at the very least be asked if I'd like to make that change understanding that it will cost more. No communication from our waitress and a very unpleasant demeanor when she was there, not up to par food (esp for the price), and waiting over an hour for our food and corrected items resulted in a horrible experience. I will not go back and do not recommend anyone to either. If you want to sit at the bar you'd probably have a better experience but the restaurant side was...

In a single word Disappointing. Went with another couple who also have a similar opinion. Started with high hopes for this place which has a great history and a “sort of” supper club feel. The old fashions were good. And yes we did have cheese spread and bread sticks on the table. My wife had the Ribs and shrimp, I order the special King size Prime Rib We both had soup as a starter. The cheese-broccoli was good but the French pinion was the first disappointment of the evening. Very surprising that there was no cheese on the soup. As for the main courses… The ribs were dry and the shrimp had a tempura type coating. The king size prime rim e looked amazing but was very tough, and was served bone-in which was at least 20% of the steak. No Aus Ju or horse radish was serve or offered. Both meals came with potatoes which we fine but to picky the meal presentation was less than eye appealing, something you would expect for the this type of place and for the price of the meal. I the end all four of us discussed that we were all disappointed and that we probably won’t be going back. We wish them all the best in these tough times as a small business owner myself I understand the struggles but this didn’t appear to be a staffing issue, I think they just didn’t execute a good experience for us. One more note: they charge a fee to use a credit card and they do provide a suggested tip chart which is a great thing, but the tip was calculated on the meal cost plus the credit card fee and...

So.... We've been here twice, once with friends, once just the two of us. Both times stood awkwardly in entryway til a waitress noticed us. Same waitress came over both times, quickly seating us, stating our waitress would be there shortly. Only a few minutes our drink orders were taken, delivered close to 10 min. later for 6 of us, only a few minutes for the 2 of us. Also, 6 of us received 1 bread basket, 2 of us nothing. 6 of us ordered varied types of fish, nothing was outstanding, but it was good. Prices were a little high for the quantity. We came again on a weeknight, as I said drink orders and seating prompt. Things quickly went downhill after we ordered, I opted for a plain, rare cheeseburger& salad. My husband had rib dinner. We waited almost half an hour before my husbands salad came, they forgot I had ordtered one so it was another 5-6 minutes. It was then 20 min. before entrees came. My husband's meal was tepid, the potato not even edible. My burger was done well, but I ate it anyway after long wait. Nothing was good enough to warrant the prices. Another pet peeve, there is no menu to view beforehand anywhere online. I averaged the 2 visits, that was enough for us, we won't...

My friend and I stopped here for dinner tonight. We had a fantastic meal! The atmosphere is come as you are. There is a large bar in the front. The dining room is in the back with plenty of seating for all group sizes. The hostess showed us to a table quickly. The dining area reminded me of the supper club atmosphere from years ago with the cracker basket and delicious, homemade cheese spread. Our waitress couldn't have been friendlier! Her timing was perfect; very attentive without feeling like she was hovering. I had tenderloin tips over noodles and a dinner salad. My girlfriend had the steak sandwich. I was very pleasantly surprised when I tried the Parmesan peppercorn dressing (again, homemade!). It was a perfect side salad- not just a bunch of iceberg lettuce like some places serve. Our entrees arrived quickly. They were perfectly cooked and were nice and hot. My girlfriend always orders her steak well done, so we were worried about it being dried out. Not to worry; it was cooked to order and nice and moist. There was plenty of delicious tenderloin and mushrooms in my entree. The gravy was delicious! Thank you, Chances, for a delicious dinner!

Recommended by a friend to come try the BBQ ribs at Chances. However, we ended up with the pan seared scallops and beer battered walleye. Since it was Friday, we asked what is the difference between the beer battered walleye under the Friday Fish Fry Special and the beer battered walleye under the seafood section of the menu. We were told that the beer battered is made by the restaurant if you order from the seafood section. The Fish Fry Special walleye came already battered. This really made a big difference! It is by far the best beer battered walleye we had tasted since we have been tasting Wisconsin Fish Fry over the years! The scallops were cooked perfectly but they lack taste. I should have known better bc our waitress hesitated when I asked. We will come back another time for the ribs.

Great food and excellent service at a reasonable price. Tomato soup was creamy and rich with a touch of heat. Spinach tasted like it was cut fresh from a backyard garden, and hot bacon dressing was just that. Ruben had chunks of corned beef that were flavorful and juicy - not dried out like some thin sliced can be. Walleye sandwich is the peak of their fish fry battered fare on a soft bread that manages to hold together while you eat it. Bravo
