We are frequent eaters here at Hazel‘s every season. This one visit on the 10th of May we ordered 4 lobster rolls for $150 after tax. We brought one home for the wife trying to get brownie points. It ended up not so because all four sandwiches had lots of shells in them and now I’m stuck in the doghouse.. I went back and asked them if they could go good for ONE(not two) sandwiches if I buy four more and try it again because of the shells and they said no, sorry they couldn’t help us and that’s how they come is with shells. Be very cautious people if you have bad teeth or dentures or if you end up, swallowing a piece and end up choking, so be careful. It’s pretty pathetic having to spit out chunks of shell from a $35 sandwich. I get that it’s hard to make sure every last little bit of shell gets out of it but what’s the chances that all four sandwiches had huge pieces of shells that’s just laziness And if I owned my own business, it would be worth one free sandwich or even $5 off the $140 order I would’ve been happy. But we are still a unsatisfied customer especially when we’re ordering almost $200 at a time! I’d do it Just to make sure everyone is satisfied and keep coming back. ! They did not even ask what kind of help they could give us with the order, they just said NO! . All they told us is that they were low in Meat and they couldn’t give us any kind of discount. It’s not like I was asking for half my order for free just a little discretion on their mistake regardless, if it was during a busy lunch hour, customer service is customer service.! We live 2 1/2 hours away and come down several times a year So it’s not like we could’ve just came back the next day and said something I figured man to man we could’ve got something taken care of Apparently not unprofessional to...
Read moreThe food is good, and made to order, but I was slightly disappointed after I'd heard how good it was.
The location is great though- some nicely shaded areas to eat, or picnic tables with umbrellas for the exposed areas. A nice big yard for a picnic, or to play some light catch. Maybe find a different place for all the lawn clippings though...
The lady carrying out food does well at her job, but is a bit abrasive and spoke to another young lady that works there fairly brusquely right in front of all the people waiting to order. She seemed annoyed that customers were oblivious they were in her way of the door she needed to use while they waited for their food or gathering condiments and utensils (in this case inconveniently situated directly next to the door she used). She was beside herself when she shouted "excuse me!" as I was walking toward the condiment area, unaware someone not in my line of sight and not using my name or even a "sir" was talking to me. Her response was an incredulous and indirect "so he walks in front of me, haha!" She used to work at Maritime Farms on the Thomaston/Rockland line and was never a peach to deal with over the phone or in person either, so I wish I could chalk her actions up to a tough day, but that her pattern says otherwise. Maybe tourists wanna hear a salty Mainer, but that's not what I'm paying for.
While I appreciate the success of the business and all the hard workers at the window and kitchen, I'll probably avoid Hazel's for similar food elsewhere with...
Read moreGreat roadside burger stand! You've got your usual burgers, hot dogs, fries and onion rings. But they have some fancy items on they menu too so that your vegetarian friends can have a sandwich too. I've been twice and never disappointed. The burger was choice, cooked to order, and the fries battered and crispy the way I love! My first visit had a top class, fancy bun. Gotta say that on the second visit the bun obviously came out if the grocery store bread aisle. I'm giving five stars still, but I expect the sub par bun on my second visit was a fluke (stuff happens you know?). I'll update this review next year! All in all Hazel's is a top class, summer roadside burger stand with great serving sizes, good materials, and...
