MJ's Eatery — Restaurant in Roscommon Township

Oh WOW! Hungry people, set your GPS for 8111 W. Houghton Lake Dr. Houghton Lake. MJ’s is located across from Houghton Lake on the hill near the U-Haul business.

My wife and were headed to the area and I researched a place to stop for breakfast/brunch. Oh, did I do good! At MJ’s we got a warm welcome, lakeview table and a great cup of coffee to start. We ordered a Rueben w/fries and a Caramel Apple pancake creation. Our food was on the table before we knew it. It looked amazing. Big plates. Without getting mushy here let us say it was the best ever, and we’ve been around. Our Hostess and server Krystal made me think I need to write a review about this place. People need to know! I wish I had known.

We were headed back on the road early the next day. MJ’s was on our route out of town so we stopped for breakfast Yup, second time in a row, best ever food and served by Brittany. Thanks for recognizing us from the day before and starting us off to a good day.

I only will write a review when I am just blown away with how amazing a business and the people are. No pictures here. We want you to get the full effect like we did. Thanks MJ’s. We have great memories of something basic, but real special! We purchased MJ’s coffee mugs at the counter to use and remind us of the good food and people!

Back for Breakfast 08-24-2024. Busy as can be. Worth the wait. I asked for well done hash brown potatoes with my meal. They were perfect like the rest of my order. Thanks...

You just can't go wrong with this place.

Literally EVERYTHING on the menu is incredible. There is some real heart behind this place and Mike and Jodi are incredible people that treat you like family. Their staff (which also include some of their kids) are the best servers you will ever come across. You will never wait long for your food, if you wait at all it's because the place is PACKED to the gills because it is THAT good, those in the know will wait for a table (and the turn around is FAST). You don't pass up an opportunity to eat here... I mean, ya just don't. Come on a Friday when they have their fish fry? It will change your life. The fries are I N C R E D I B L E... Full stop. I swear the owners and staff were transported from a 50's bomb shelter... always polite, sweet, friendly. greet you with a smile, say "goodbye and come again" every single time. They are just a joy....

If you're not just looking for good eats but a great "make your day" atmosphere... look NO further than MJ's. :)

(2 Year Ago) We just moved here from Colorado. Thought we'd try this place out for breakfast. We bought our first house in Higgins Lake and I'm starting to regret that decision because we aren't closer to this place.

My son and I came 45 minutes before close, and I was afraid they wouldn’t seat us, no problem, there was one table left open and they sat us there. There are only about 15-18 tables, but coming at a non-peak time helped. Our server was super friendly and came back and checked on us frequently. I ordered the handmade cheese sticks and I tell you, they are incredible! You only get 4, so if there are more than 4 in your party, you’ll need two orders. They are amazing! I got the grilled chicken fiesta salad and it was huge! Also, grilled chicken throughout, not just sitting on top, which I thought was awesome. There were layers to the salad, which was nice. Good flavor and enormous. I saw other peoples food at other tables and it looked like nice size portions as well. I also ordered the breakfast potatoes O’Brien and I didn’t care for those. My son got a hamburger with bacon, and other meats on it, and he couldn’t finish it because it was so big! lol he got fries with it, and they tasted like they had a Parmesan seasoning on them. I enjoyed the pretty colorful mural outside as well. We’ll be...
