This place came highly recommended by a resident of the small town where the restaurant is located, Roseboro. Sometimes, you can find some real gems in small towns, but, more often, residents make something special our of an underwhelming restaurant just because it's the only venue in town. I think this is the latter case. The first time, we ordered a steak and grilled shrimp. The steak was a good size and cooked to the doneness requested. I noticed it was dry, but my boyfriend liked it. The shrimp was not what is advertised on the menu. There are laws in the US when it comes to labeling foods on menus. If an item is advertised as grilled, it MUST be grilled. If shrimp is advertised as jumbo, it must be jumbo, and so on. I guess the owners do not know the definition of grilled, and neither does the cook. However, when someone calls you out on it, you should correct the situation, especially if you are breaking the law. Back to our meal. They were very busy, but our food came out quite fast for the amount of folks that were there on a Wednesday. The sides were cold, though, and I wonder if they just scooped them off the top of the "hot" buffet, which means the food is not being stirred as per Health Department rules. So, do not eat from the hot buffet because you might get food poisoning. I ordered a glass of pinot grigio, and it came to the table at room temperature. I wanted to have it replaced, but the waitress was too busy and told us she had to get it from the back, which tells me that they didn't have any more chilled. I had to add ice cubes to it to make it drinkable. Did I bring my concerns to the owners? Yes, I did, to give them a chance to correct it. Did they correct it? No. His answer: you cannot please everybody. Our bill was over $70.
We decided to give them another chance, and went back on a Wednesday, again, hoping it was going to be better. I ordered a petite sirloin with the salad bar and mashed potatoes, while my boyfriend ordered steak and fries. I ordered my sirloin medium well, but unfortunately it came out rare. It was a very high quality cut of meat, but I had to send it back to be cooked some more. I noticed that no seasoning is used on the meat. No salt or pepper, and no "au jus," so the meat is just that, a hunk of flash. I tried to put some salt and pepper, but that didn't do it. So, what is the point of buying expensive ingredients if you don't know how to cook them properly to make them shine? We ordered dessert, and it was awful. The cake is made out of cakebox mix or a poorly created cake mix. The icing left a weird taste in my mouth for hours and was grainy. The only edible part was the nut filling. Positive note: I asked for chilled wine and I got it!
So, after spending $150 at this establishment, I say no more. Here is constructive criticism for the owners: stop saying you can't please everybody. Take folks criticism in consideration when those are valid points. Yes, some people are unreasonable. As a trained chef and culinary arts instructor, here is my advise: change the cook I know good cooks are hard to find, but you could have received more visits/money from me (and others) if you had a cook in the back who can treat the expensive ingredients you have with respect. And smile, Sir. Smile. Practice in front...
Read moreOur travel ball team tried this out after a tournament based on a few recommendations. We waited over an hour and our food never came, what did come was not correct, and some of the food was spoiled. Crab cakes smelled like rotten fish from 4 tables over. The salad bar was great but the steaks that our party ordered were no where near the temperature requested if they even came out. The waitress was rude and loud, and very dismissive when we tried to help. We then waited 30 minutes for an incorrect ticket and then we were charged for a group tip even though over half of the order was never brought out, what was came out cold, or wrong. Save yourself the money, frustration, and disappointment. I was hoping it would have been good....SMH...they missed out on a large group of what would've been repeat customers...
To respond to the managers comment on the original post, we have never eaten anywhere without paying. Our "group" has never had this issue or label at any other restaurant, and when I left everyone had paid the bill they were given although they had to be modified several times each to remove what was never brought out... If someone did not pay, then the wrong ticket was provided or not corrected and 2 hours with no food, 1 refill, and being charged a tip after being yelled at and not even getting any food, some responsibility is on the server... I would assume they had the wrong ticket included in our group based on everything else that was wrong. I contacted our group and all that had any alcohol paid and I will be happy to provide bank receipts.I do not drink and had a water and tea. I ordered a filet with a crab cake, salad, baked potato, kids tenders and onion rings. We fixed our salad, the kids chicken came out, and the onion rings came after all entrees. The response from the owner was off base and an attempt to make it sound like a bunch of drinking and rude behavior. The waitress would bring food out, yell to the entire room "if you want your food stand up"? I had 1 refill in 1-1/2 hours and when the steak never came they brought the ticket to circle what had been omitted to start cooking it. This was after an hour and our party that did receive food had already eaten. Don't make this sound as though you can't admit to poor service and being...
Read moreTried this place because we were in the area and love to get the local flavor. I grew up in the Ozarks, where on Sundays after church, we would head straight to a local steakhouse for lunch in our Sunday best. We were here, on Sunday first customers in the door and very obviously, the only non locals in there. The staff is absolutely the friendliest and super attentive, in fact I couldnt get to the bathroom without being greeted by staff 3 or 4 times. For that, I give the best of my ratings. On Sundays, the menu is limited (see my photo) and you have your choice from there. If you would like something from the regular menu, they let youknow, you will have a bit of a wait. I ordered pot roast, twice baked potatos, corn and side salad. (Make your own salad off of the buffet) The pot roast was actually pretty good, and terribly fatty. The twice baked potatos were actually big old potato chunks, which I assume all were boiled and mixed with I'm not sure what, maybe some sort of cream soup? I'm a potato loving girl, these were not awesome, and at best were lukewarm in temp. I didnt eat the corn, just based on looks. My husband had the BBQ chicken, which he says was most likely boiled and some bbq slathered on it. The corn was also lukewarm, all in all thos reminded of the cafeterias of when I was a kid, like Lubys, or Picadilly. Large quantities of food cooked and being kept warm, not hot. For the price of $12, almost 13 per plate, I cannot say I...
