Edit:
(In response to owner's response). Dear owner, since you mentioned twice in your response "I don't know what you are talking about", just to clarify, what I am talking about is, on the online ordering webpage/menu, you have a description of an item, for example the Street Taco. The description mentions cheese and cilantro (standard ingredients). When you click on the item thumbnail to order it, a window pops up that has a list titled "toppings/condiments(Optional)", with check boxes next to each item, and both standard and optional ingredients listed together. This confused me because I wasn't sure whether or not I needed to check the boxes for the standard ingredients in order to make sure I got them. And if I have to do that, I personally find it be annoying and inconvenient, because if I want an item the way it comes, I want to just click it once and be done with it.
My recommendation: Instead of one big checkbox list of all possible ingredients/additions/toppings, I would have two separate lists, one for Additional/Optional Ingredients/Toppings, which doesn't have any of the standard ingredients on it, and a separate list for Exclusions, which has all the standard ingredients that people can exclude if they don't want them. These would be separate input fields in the menu system.
Good luck!
My Original Review:
Pros: -Reasonably good service as far as communication and order turn-around time. -The steak zip tacos were liked by 2 of my kids.
Cons: -The online ordering menu and process is a bit confusing, and this was acknowledged by the employee. The specific problem is differentiating between what comes standard on the tacos and the various options which have check boxes. My recommendation is to have "standard" versions of the tacos, which come with whatever stuff that most people like (e.g. onions, cilantro and whatever trademark sauces) as standard - briefly list what that comprises in the descriptor on the menu, and then let people specify what exclusions or additions they want as a dedicated line item - perhaps best people type this out instead of check-boxes. -They did not have any pork options, e.g. carnitas or pastor, which was a disappointment - those are my and many people's favorites for Mexican food. Should add those. -My wife complained that the burrito bowl she got didn't have the option of substituting the beans and rice with veggies. Like so many people these days, she is a very-low-carb diet. I know these are tough times for small businesses, but even grading on that curve, the overall amount of food we got, for the money spent, was a bit...
Read moreIf you’re on the hunt for the best steak taco in town, Nikos Tacos absolutely delivers with their signature Zip Tacos. These tacos are a standout in the local food scene, offering bold flavor, high-quality ingredients, and a homemade feel that sets them apart.
The Zip Tacos are packed with tender, well-seasoned steak that’s grilled to perfection—juicy, flavorful, and never dry. The balance of textures is just right, from the char on the meat to the softness of the tortilla. Whether you're a taco traditionalist or just someone who appreciates great food, these are worth the trip.
How many to order? That depends on how hungry you are. For a light lunch, 2 tacos should hit the spot, but if you're really hungry or just can’t get enough, go for 3 or even 4. They're generously filled and satisfying, without feeling too heavy.
The beans are another highlight—honestly, 9/10. Some of the best I’ve had anywhere. They’re creamy, rich, and packed with flavor, clearly made with care. The rice, while not quite as memorable, is still solid at 7/10. It’s well-seasoned and makes a nice pairing on the plate.
One thing that really elevates the experience at Nikos Tacos is the hospitality. Niko, the owner, is super nice and genuinely friendly. He takes the time to greet customers, answer questions, and make you feel welcome. That kind of personal connection goes a long way and makes this place feel like more than just a taco stop—it’s a neighborhood gem.
One heads-up: the food is made fresh, so there can be a bit of a wait, especially during busy hours. That’s really my only critique. If you’re short on time, I recommend ordering ahead so your food is ready when you arrive. It’s well worth it either way, but planning ahead helps...
Read moreBeing a certified nor cal taco hunter I have tried tacos up and down the West Coast and have come to the conclusion that the sac area has some of the best tacos hands down. After seeing someone recommended Nikos I knew I had to try them.
First they are in the older part of West sac in a weird little strip mall, for me that's a good sign. I have never gotten a decent taco in a fancy upscale location! Second they are right next to/attached to Carniceria, that is also a good omen. As soon as I walked in and saw the decor I felt the stars starting to align, the floor is beat up and faded, you can see that it was painted in all kinds of designs many many years ago, the booths are wood and old, but fit perfectly.
Normally we order almost one of everything so we get a good idea of what the place is like, today we were not planning on heading over but happened to be in the area so we were not that hungry, we got chicken and carne asada zip tacos. I am a sucker for Parmesan on tacos, I have no idea why this isn't a standard but places that do it are doing it right, well these things don't just have a light dusting, these things are coated! The shell was golden and crispy from the grill, the meat was flavorful and tender, I could taste the fresh crisp onions, there wasn't anything that I could complain about them. Before I knew it they were gone and I already wished we had gotten more l! There was one thing that I noticed after they were gone, and that was there was no heat, it would of been nice to of had a sauce to go with them, but honestly they didn't need it.
Nikos just rocketed to the top 5 tacos I have ever had, so stoked to have found them. We will be back soon to try the...
