🍕 One Word: Underwhelming (and that’s me being polite)
Here’s the truth: I don’t mind paying for pizza when the pizza shows up and delivers. But this? This was $26+ for a tiny, underwhelming rectangle pie that couldn’t feed three hungry people. We opened the box and literally said: “Where’s the rest of it?”
What the menu does:
Uses price tags that scream "family meal"—$26 to $44 for pizza? You’d expect something sizable.
Labels like “XL,” “Detroit,” or “Pan” without ever telling you the actual dimensions, slice count, or how many people it feeds.
Fills descriptions with flashy words—“blue steel pans,” “racing stripes of sauce,” “award-winning dough”—to make it sound like you’re getting a world-class experience.
Shows photos that give the impression you’re getting a hearty, shareable pizza.
What it delivers:
A small, sad rectangle of pizza that’s barely enough for two people—maybe.
No substance, just sauce streaks and disappointment.
A $26 price tag for something that looks and feels like a kid’s after-school snack.
We had three adults ready to eat, and we honestly thought maybe half the pizza was missing. I’m not being dramatic—that’s how skimpy it was.
And here’s the kicker: walk across the street to Monticello’s, and for the same price, you get a LARGE square pizza—16 solid cuts, thick crust, cheesy, filling, and no surprises when you open the box. This was our third shot at Caliente. Different locations, same letdown.
⚠️ Overpriced. Under-delivered. 🍕 If this is “Detroit-style,” then Detroit needs to come get it. Pittsburgh...
Read moreThis place has terrible customer service and they are impossible to get ahold of. A friend recommended this place to host a reception we were having. I called on a Thursday afternoon and was told the individual who schedules events wasn't in until Friday evening. They took down my info and said they'd leave it on her desk and she would call me back when she got on at 5 or I could call back anytime Friday evening. The next day on Friday I didn't hear from her so I called around 6:30 and was told she was busy bartending but they again took down my info and said they'd give her it so she could call me back that night. Well I didn't hear from her the rest of the night Friday nor all day Saturday. Sunday evening I decided to give it one more shot, so I called and same thing: I was told she was bartending but could take my info and call me back. I told the person on the phone that the same thing happened twice before and she never called back and I had been trying to schedule an event there for days. The person on the phone said they'd make sure she'd call me back and I said "great, thanks!" Well what do you know, I never heard back. So I gave up and found another pizza place to host my event at which got me scheduled in right away on the first phone call.
All the employees who picked up the phone were super nice, but it is honestly beyond terrible customer service that that other lady couldn't call me back. Even if that date was taken or something, she should have still called back to let me know. Frankly extremely rude and a bad look on...
Read moreIt's unfortunate when a notable area restaurant and then franchise grows beyond itself to a point of fault, but that seems to be the case with this new Caliente.
My in-laws ordered pizzas for a birthday party ahead of time on a Sunday afternoon, and were told they would be arriving at 5 pm. Since this location uses Doordash instead of a traditional delivery driver (at least when we ordered) there was some kind of mishap with the pickup.
When my mother in law called after waiting about 30 extra minutes beyond the delivery window, she was told the pizzas were picked up and would be arriving shortly. However, after another half hour, no one had arrived. Caliente was phoned again, and this time they said the pizzas were never picked up, but the Doordash driver should be arriving soon, an hour plus after the expected window.
They asked if we wanted the pizzas that had now been sitting for over an hour, and that was declined, and another family member went to the actual location to retrieve new pizzas. When he picked them up, there was no real contrition or offer for a refund, just acting like a standard pick up.
I understand the pace of the food industry and the difficulty of having a third party deliver, but the overall handling of the situation was just not decent, with the biggest problem being the lying about the status of our order after the first phone call. Hopefully, for their sake, this kind of thing is isolated, and this new location improves before more...
