We have been going to the Valparaiso and Chesterton locations in the past and this Merrillville location was just as good. I believe they have 1 other in Munster area which we have not checked out yet.
We went on a weekday for lunch, shortly after they opened and there was no wait before we were seated. Our waiter came to get our drink orders shortly after we sat. Overall the time between our order taken and getting our food was under 20 minutes. They were not full but enough customers, yet they had adequate wait staff so our orders were delivered to table timely. We were starved when we got there, so we appreciated that.
Over-all customer service was good.
The food was consistent with what we expected from their other locations. It was well seasoned, presentation was great and the portions were generous. I like it when they incorporate serving food in unique bowls instead of the usual boring plates. To me that means, the food will not be bland so maybe that helps. All the little things, adds up. They have both regular tables and some booths, cozy and comfortable. They had music playing in the background but not too loud that you cant have a good conversation.
The price was fair for what you get. We ordered an appetizer and 2 main entrees with beverages and no dessert, our bill came to $75. We had enough left overs for another meal at home, so factoring that in, made the meal a deal.
Menu selection typical of most Mexican restaurants. I would classify this place as above average and is one of our favorites in North West Indiana to go out and have a meal.
The restaurant is attached to other businesses in a small strip so they share parking spaces, enough during the day we visited. It is right off I-30.
The inside decor was okay, nothing extraordinary. The entire facility was kept clean albeit the menus were a little sticky, but that might be a bit nit-picky for some, definitely not enough to knock down a star rating. I believe they deserve 5 stars all day long, for as hard as their staff work to elevate the customer experience. As always, staff can most times, make or break a business especially in areas of...
Read moreOk.... Of all the places I hate to review, is my people's (paisano's) restaurants. Why? Because I am of Mexican descent. But I have to speak up because I want this place to succeed. The second time for me at this Salto in Hobart and the food was horrible. The 3 tacos in had were just outright BAD. The meat was super duper dry and the tortillas were half cooked. There was no seasoning to the meat and it was just horrible. My wife had the Parillada ...not bad because that is what the fajita meat should look like but there were no green peppers and the chicken was dry. The grilled shrimp was good as was the melted cheese. My son had the Burrito and it was a big sloppy mess. I tasted some of it and it was cheese on top of cheese with no flavor to the meat...horrible. The appetizer guacamole wasn't even good and that's hard to mess up. My conclusion is that the cooks and or head chef is not taking quality control into account. People will still come into this place not knowing that their food is not good. Cmon El Salto in Hobart. Your cooks have got to step up your game BIG TIME. QUALITY IS EVERYTHING! AT LEAST COOK THE TORTILLAS THOROUGHLY AND STOP MICROWAVING THE TORTILLAS!! El Salto in Munster STILL takes pride in their food... By the way, the service WAS VERY GOOD DESPITE THE FOOD BEING HORRIBLE. I KNOW the latino servers know that the food is sub-par.. Cmon El Salto in Hobart!! I'm rooting for you guys!! TAKE PRIDE...
Read moreThis place has very good food. So why only 2 stars? I work nearby and I place a carry out order at least once per week. Over the past 2 months--approx 8 trips, I have had a problem. I have addressed this proble with the manager on duty but the problems continue. I want to make this clear--my issue is only with the carry-out service. I have never had any problems when I dine in.
List of problems when I carry out---long wait on hold, hung up on, they have lost my order serveral times, order is wrong or missing when i get there. I feel like the problem is that no one there wants to take a carry out order due to low or no tips. When I show up and tell someone that I'm there for a pick up everyone disappears.
They only give good service when you dine in and they flat out refuse to address the issue. Today my order was lost again. I phone in my order for me and 2 co workers at 12:10 and I did not leave there until 1:20. While I was there another customer came in to complain about the long wait and the wrong food from the previous day. Like I said before, they do not want carry out busy becasue they feel like they will not be tipped....bottom line--only dine in at this location
My co-workers and I will no longer being carrying out lunch here--too bad because we all...
