Java Blend Cafe — Restaurant in Rural Retreat

We found this cafe in our search for gluten free baked goods for our trip up through VA. This was our second time visiting Java Blend and I’m still thinking about those muffins! Now that we will be making this drive every couple of months, we are thrilled to have a place to pick up items for our trip. It’s very difficult to find things on the road, much less those that meet the requirements of been handled correctly and are yummy! The baker at Java Blend does both.

My daughter called ahead both times and they happily explained what they had available, then set her choices aside for pick up. The cafe is maybe 5 minutes from the exit. Absolutely LOVED this place. Did not expect a gem like this in a small sleepy town. We pulled into an exit looking for a local place to eat at stumbled upon this beauty. The ambience and set up on the inside is amazing, welcoming and very homely. They have decorated the place very tastefully. We were sitting in this book which, looking out the door gave us a view of the landscape. The food they have is fresh and delicious. We had the steak and cheese melt and the chicken pesto panini. My family ordered a BLT, Philly cheesesteak, shredded turkey pita (added the salad bar), and grilled chicken sandwich. They each came with chips and a pickle. All 4 sandwiches were phenomenal, and the salad bar had a large variety of items. Before we left we ordered 2 fruit smoothies, a Hyper Monkey smoothie, and a vanilla/caramel latte to go. We all loved our drinks :) We spent $49 altogether and my husband talked about how good his Hyper Monkey smoothie was after every sip he took.
