End of an era, sadly. I rarely resort to negative reviews online but, given the way this evening went, I feel inclined to share our experience in the event that it may save others from a similar fate.
Been coming here for 10 years and this is our favorite last-night-of-vacation dinner thatâs become an annual tradition. We ordered 2 lobster rolls (one with butter and one with Mayo), onion rings, and two clam cakes. I was told that I would receive a text when the food was ready. We went to the rear patio and, the second I received the text, I headed inside to get our order. Upon bringing it outside, it was immediately evident that the food had been sitting in the bag for quite some time, as the onion rings and clam cakes were cold and soggy and the Mayo lobster roll (typically cold) had warmed from the steam in the bag.
I took the food back in and explained the issue to the girl working the to-go table. She said âIâm sorry, we got really busy. We can remake it if you can just sit in here and waitâ. I left my wife outside on our last night of vacation and waited for the order to be remade. Once the new order was ready (approximately 10 minutes later), I went back outside to finally eat only to realize they forgot to include one of the two lobster rolls. I took the order back inside and requested to speak to a manager. The girl behind the counter went to get the manager who was hanging out at the bar.
The manager opened the conversation with âwhatâs the problem? I was back there when they made it and it was perfectâ. I informed him that it was not perfect, considering they forgot one of the lobster rolls. I further explained the initial mishap, noting the fact that the food had become cold and steamed the Mayo lobster roll, and he said âwell, the lobster roll is supposed to be warmâ. I explained that the Mayo lobster roll absolutely should not have been warm. At this point, he said âwell I donât know what you want me to do. Do you want a refund?â I slid the bag to the left on the table and said âyes, I am not eating this,â to which he responded âokay, you donât have to throw the bag at meâ. Under no circumstance would I ever âthrowâ a bag at anyone and I let him know that the entire exchange was ridiculous and combative for absolutely no reason. I finally informed him that we would never be back and I will stand by this.
As I said, this used to be a favorite part of our trip before driving 700 miles back home. Instead, it was an evening that ended without eating dinner and itâs sad to know that Huotâs is no longer the place...
Read moreIt was my first time eating at Huot's, it was no nonsense experience. It consists of a typical summer shack by the ocean menu. Order at the window, take it to go or eat in. My family and I chose to eat in. I ordered the fried haddock sandwich it came with lettuce tomato, onion, and pickle with cheese, served on a brioche bun. tt was probably close to a half a pound of haddock lightly breaded which is what I like not greasy at all fresh and tasty. My mom ordered fried clams she got a nice portion, once again not overly breaded or greasy, and I must say they were some of the biggest whole belly clams I've ever had (Yes I did sneak some). My daughter got the lobster roll, she had a choice of Maine style, hot buttered. She chose the standard Maine lobster roll with mayo, it was a nice portion of chunky lobster I'd say definitely over 1/4 lb of lobster meat which seems to be the standard for a lobster roll. The crinkle cut fries were nice and crispy. The condiment area is self-serve and they don't cheap out on tartar sauce (I think it's even homemade) which is important to me as I love tartar sauce with my fries as well, hopefully people don't abuse. The people were extremely nice and they really cared how her experience went. I will definitely be going back when I pay a visit to my...
Read moreOne of my family's traditions of for many many years. It's a real family operation which is supported by generations of people who appreciate good food, quick service, and a pleasant atmosphere. It's also reasonably priced.
Quick tip: they tend to jam up for evening meals, especially on weekends. Check the website for the details but they will take reservations for groups of a certain size. And groups between 4 and 1 person can call and ask their name be placed on the waiting list up to an hour ahead. since the wait time is usually about an hour when it's very busy that's a great deal.
Try the haddock Stew. It's one of their specialties. I'm like most of the clam chowder you get these days, the halibut stew has a lite milk base which allows the delicate flavor of the fish to come through.
Their fried clams are delicious. They come with tasty french fries and fresh coleslaw. If you have room, the homemade chocolate cream pie is a great finish for the evening.
There are two different parking lots of for this restaurant. One is out in front of the front door but the other is up the street to the left. If all else fails you can park in the lot near the water but that...
