So I'm not from around here and I spent one week In saginaw. Each day I tried something different, some recommendations from locals, some just based off the reviews they had etc. Hands down this is the best meal I had on my trip, not only that its 100% the best value. The amount of catfish I got was truly incredible, easily would be at least $16 anywhere else, was only $8.99 here and like I said, it was hands down some of the best catfish I've ever had. I got the Mac and cheese, collard greens, and added a side of potato salad based off the owners recommendation. All three were incredibly tasty, and I did not regret taking his recommendation one bit. Honestly If this meal had costed 19.99 I would have still thought it was 100% worth it. Sucks that Im leaving tomorrow because theres so much more to try there, I wish I would have just ate there each day!
As for the bad reviews on the owner and staff being rude, The staff was super polite, I met the owner directly when getting my food, and I can report that guy is cool as hell. I think the people saying that have never worked in a restaurant with limited staff. Sometimes it gets super busy and you are doing 10 things at once that you might have to hang up the phone occasionally in order to not burn your current guests food or it might seem that your short but you are really just trying to give the customer's that you are already with, faster service. When you eat this food you will see this man has a passion for what he does, and sometimes I think people can confuse that with being short or rude.

I wanted more info on a particular item and the owner seemed tense and frantic alluding me to just come in and get a menu because his establishment was busy. I wasn't going to go originally but I went anyway. When I got there it was dark, it almost didn't seem as if the place was even open. Went to the front door it's opaque and you can't view anything inside. All I could hear was voices. My anxiety was heightened cause I wasn't sure what to expect on the other side of the door. Went in, it was only a few people there and they were already seated. It didn't appear busy at all like he claimed on the phone. I got my order in, the owner was more cordial by the end of my visit but by that point just given his attitude and the atmosphere of the place I just wasn't happy or felt welcomed as a first time customer.
The foods presentation was good however the sides tasted bland and like they were microwaved out of a can. There's not enough transparency in the building and the lighting is poor. Not a very appealing place to attract new customers. Also, the owner needs to be a bit more gracious to customers calling on the phone. Read moreThe owner of this establishment lacks customer service skills. Being a professional business owners requires you to have the ability to communicate like a grown person. A customer asking questions shouldn't equate to an argument because the customer is asking to be educated on your processes. Your attitude is horrible. It always has been horrible but people tend to patronize your establishment because the food is good. However, the food being good doesn't warrant your poor attitude. You are supposed to be a pillar in the community as a "Black owned Business" however you believe you get to treat the community as though they don't pay your bills. You answer the phone with an attitude. I called back and you hung up in my face because I didn't hear you properly. When I attempted to apologize and ask questions so that I better understood the order, you proceeded to hang up in my face again. You advised you didn't care because you have a line out the door. The truth is you NEVER have a line out the door. You might have tons of orders to process which means that you need to hire additional staff to answer the phones and take orders.
