My wife and I wanted to sample a few things, so we ordered a fried clam basket, calamari appetizer, lobster roll, fried clam appetizer (we were both really in the mood for clams, apparently) and a cup of the lobster bisque soup. We requested everything be brought to the table all at once, which it was.

Fried clams were very good, as were the fries and cole slaw they came with.

Calamari was good, but a little too well done.

Lobster roll was excellent, and my wife appreciated the fact that it was served "naked." (mayo on the side.)

Lobster bisque was phenomenal...probably the best I've ever had.

On-tap beer list was good (I appreciated the special IPA section) Some better stuff in bottles would have been nice, but not a big deal.

Service was very friendly, accommodating, and attentive...and the place was pretty busy.

Nice overall atmosphere.

The reason for the 3 star review (it would have been 3 1/2, but I couldn't figure out how to do that here ) was because the portions were way too small considering the price.

The food I mentioned, plus two beers and a glass of wine came up to $105, not including gratuity. (Unless it was built into the check...I didn't look.)

Maybe I just haven't eaten out enough lately, and have lost track of prices...but that still seemed expensive to me for a dinner for two.

Larger portions would have mitigated the high prices a bit.

Granted, I can put away alot of food at dinner.

At any rate, I would go here again, as it was an enjoyable experience...but probably only for special occasions, given the amount of money you have to shell out.

If the prices and/or portions were a bit better, I could maybe see it being a more regular thing.

Would also recommend this place to anyone visiting the area...if they were willing to spend a bit.

Without the portions/prices issue, I'd give this place 4 1/2...

What a lovely surprise to find delectable home cooked flavors in the mid-coast region of Maine. It’s a constant disappointment to find gorgeous eateries on the coast that go the lazy crazy route and do Sysco frozen garbage. Why are they serving frozen, superprocessed food? Because a million tourists won’t know the difference. As locals we know better. And from the lobster Mac and cheese with as much lobster as pasta in a cheese sauce that rivals my own!!—to the coffee can size absolutely amazing crabcakes, (HUGE, homemade, bursting with crabmeat not just a heap of seasoned breading) to the frogs legs( yes, you read that right! Tender, perfectly prepared and delicious!!), we enjoyed every morsel. It’s tough to give a review of 12 out of 10 because dammit we want to keep this treasure a secret! But the public should know—this eatery offers really delicious homemade seafood and German traditional favorites, hiding out right there in Tenants Harbor/St. George. Live music, fantastic food, and the best service we’ve experienced in a very long time. Get over there and experience truly above average food and outstanding service, without the bougie, pretentious attitudes (yeah, I’m looking at you, Craignair Inn—we certainly won’t be back to visit to tolerate the lifeless staff or glaring, sullen bartender—yuck!) or price points in the midcoast. The Happy Clam is our new number...

I am a "local" who dropped by with my wife for an evening dinner. It was my birthday, so we were in a good mood - well, that didn't last. We were confronted with the most offensive and surly waitress (young woman) that I have ever run into. She was a complete disgrace. After berating and castigating me for being German (and this is a German restaurant!), she decided to refuse to take our dinner order. After sitting there for 35 minutes, we left. I only grant it a One-Star as the review does not accommodate zero-stars. Never again. There is a reason Management places a mandatory 20% tip on the bill there; nobody would award a penny for what they receive. Management asserts no control over the personnel he hires. Just unreal.

As to description: petite, perhaps 30, hair colored blonde, working the outside deck closest to the road on Wednesday evening. Congratulations on a great...

We had a truly enjoyable dinner at The Happy Clam. The lobster rolls were outstanding — full of fresh, sweet lobster meat, lightly dressed, and served on a perfectly toasted bun with fries, cole slaw, and warm drawn butter. The portions were generous, and every bite tasted authentic to Maine. Inside the restaurant was comfortable and clean, with plenty of seating and a relaxed atmosphere. What made the meal even better was the service — our server was kind, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we walked in. It’s clear that the staff take pride in both the food and the experience they provide. If you’re visiting the area, this is exactly the kind of place you want to stop: great food, friendly people, and a true taste of Maine hospitality. Highly recommend!

We are from Maine but haven't spent much time in this area but it has been super. The Happy Clam is full of hard working local people , bringing the local charm and cuisine. Our dinners Clam and Scallop were delicious, the staff was super friendly, drinks are strong and the atmosphere top notch.. after our meal we spent some time in their vast back patio area which had a fire , amazing new bar and local music. Definitely a festive charming spot to spend time for a meal or a whole afternoon. We happen to meet one of the owners, who was humble and alot of fun. Their to little dog seemed to be the mascot , also super friendly and the cherry on the top of the cake for this amazing little spot !

We met some friends for dinner at the Happy Clam. It was a very interesting place, right down to the working rotary phone. The menu is a mix of seafood and German dishes, which we were eager to try. The attentive waitress recommended the schweinshaxe, a whole pork shoulder slow cooked and briefly deep fried to crisp the outside. It was served with spaetzle and red cabbage. The pork was delicious, flavorful & tender. The red cabbage was also delicious, the spaetzle was an unusual yellow and bland. They also had German beers. Next time we will try a seafood dish.
