My name is Charles Anthony Wildberger . I live in Mesa Arizona. I went back to St. Joseph, Missouri for family reunion and Father’s Day during this. My son took me to Hoff and horn. The visit was very pleasant. The waitress was nice and kind when our food came out everybody’s food looked very presentable my New York style stack of full ribs filled the plate could not wait to dive in, but I had an issue. The ribs were not even cooked. They were cold was able to hold them in your hand with no issues. The bone definitely would not release from the meat. I tried cutting Karina meet to separate it the knife we’re not even go through the meat. I did get one section cut through and tried to bite through it. It definitely was not done.I could not get the bones out of the meat, nor would the knife cut The meat off the bone. My son brought it to the waitress attention. the waitress went back to talk to the cook or the manager came back to the table and told us that she can re-cook the ribs. Unfortunately we were in a hurry for time and my family had their food and was eating it and I did not want to wait another half hour for something that should’ve came out to my table ready to eat..I would’ve taken half of a discount for my ribs, but they did not offer me anything . our bill came out to $160 plus the $30 we left for a tip. I end up taking their ribs and my son put some of them in his stove the next day as we were already in Arizona sent me videos While I in return sent him videos of my dog eating the three bones with rib meat on them he enjoyed them too bad I did not. I do have to say for the three days we were in Saint Joe the best place we ate and returned three times was perkins out on the Frederick and belt just off of Highway 29 Every morning we went there for breakfast. Every time we entered the door they remembered our names they knew who you were. They sent us at the same table and they knew exactly what we had for breakfast the day before I would definitely recommend going to Perkins before going to Hoff and horn for good service. It’s sad to say that, but it is what it is. The manager would not even come out at horn to our table to talk to us about this expensive meal we did pay for our check And I brought the meat home to my dogs. I do have to say my little puppy was happy to get ribs from Saint...
Read moreMy husband and I went to the Hoof and Horn several times before it closed, and we always enjoyed it. The food, the service, and the atmosphere--including the decor--were delightful.
The new, reopened restaurant is perhaps not as memorable (yet), but is nevertheless off to a good start. The decor is updated but more ordinary and much less interesting than before--it seems it hasn't quite found its own identity yet. The food is just as fresh and tasty as before, though it took longer than I'd expected to get our salads. Once we got them, the salads were fresh and flavorful. The "house dressing" on the spinach salad isn't quite as delectable as the old "house dressing" was, but it's still good enough that I ate my whole salad! Our server brought the rest of our meal in a more timely manner than the salads. Portion sizes were good, quite filling but not "super-sized," which I appreciate. Everything was hot, perfectly seasoned, and nicely cooked.
As for service... well, I'm going to try and give them another chance to impress me here, since there was a party going on, and that seemed to keep ALL of the staff busy in the other room.
Throughout our meal, the server was pleasant enough, but seemed either overworked or distracted--she neglected to get us silverware and straws until we asked for them, didn't ask if we needed any sauces or anything when she brought our food (ketchup and steak sauce would have been nice), and disappeared for long stretches of time. Our drinks were not refilled at all while we were there, and by the time anyone came back to check on us, it wasn't worth asking for refills because we were finished eating. We waited quite a while to pay our check once we were ready to leave, as well.
Overall, I give it 3.5 stars at this point. With better service, I'd up that to 4 stars, easy,...
