So my wife and I were spending a few days in St Thomas and decided to go to Mim's Bistro on our last night. First of all, the parking is terrible. The parking lot is very tiny, and every space is marked for residents only, so you just have to figure it out. We had reservations for 730 but got there early and there was no wait, so we got right in. The ambiance is perfect. We were right on the edge of the ocean. So that gets a 5 star. Now the service. Our waitress was pleasant, but you have to remember you're on island time because she wasn't speedy. It took a while for our appetizer to come out. I was honestly expecting it to come out with our meal be cause it was taking so long. It finally came out, crab dip, and it was just OK. I honestly think it was fish dip because it had no crab flavor, and the consistency was more of fish than lump blue crab. I was only fooling myself about the entrees coming out with the apps because it took forever for the main dishes to come out after that. So the speed of service was 2.5. I ordered a large lobster coconut curry, so I knew it was going to be expensive. My wife ordered the snapper picatta. You can see the pics of both of our meals. Now mine was large. And it did have some large chunks of lobster. I can guarantee you, though, they did NOT use this entire lobster in MY dish. The amount of lobster in my dish was not equivalent to the size of the lobster tail shell they served it in. They served my meal with the wrong two sides, but it had taken so long to get, I decided to just let it be. The flavor is pretty good. Mildly sweet without the curry being overpowering. The presentation looks like a big ole mess, though. The amount of lobster was not worth the $148 they charged me for it, so value of meal gets a 2 stars. After tallying everything, they actually get a 2.56 stars but Google doesn't let you do that so 3 stars. There might be other things that would be better, but I doubt I would come back just for the ambiance of the location.

I had the most interesting meal for my 50th birthday celebration at Mims tonight. First, this place came as a recommendation from a friend who comes here all of the time and insisted this was the place to go to celebrate. I called for a reservation a few weeks back, and even upon checking in, she mentioned that I was first in the list. Upon walking over to the table, she said, “this is what you get when you are first,” and she sat us seaside. Other guests filtered in and we enjoyed a few drinks and our appetizers. About 20 minutes in, the hostesses comes over and says we need to move tables. With follow up questions we learned that this is because a customer who is vacationing this week comes every night and expects this certain table. We got moved to a table in the back; all others front tables were filled at this point. I never got a chance to talk to owner, but I wanted to share share this point. During appetizers I criticized my wife for taking pictures and writing a yelp review. She travels for work and writes a ton of reviews. So much, they have asked her to join their “elite status” membership. I told her this was unacceptable on my birthday and asked her to put her phone down, which she did. In the end, that customer never showed up before we left. I wonder if accommodating a difficult customer is worth the reviews? They did buy us 2 drinks, but even if they compensated the entire meal, this still would have been a bummer birthday dinner. * I noticed the same experience happened to S S (ride4life) five days prior. (See review) Wow! Same thing!!! Same Guy! Unbelievable!

I have visited Mim's several times before with my family and we go back at least once during each St. Thomas vacation. The food is great and the prices are better than most restaurants on the island. The adults all had seafood entrees (mahi mahi and snapper). All 4 variations of them were delicious and cooked very well. In previous years, our boys loved the grouper on the kids menu, but this time it was over cooked. My 6 year old didn't mind, but my 10 year old forced it down and ate his fries mostly. Service can be hit or miss. Our group has always had good service, but my brother's family had a rude server who was there when we were there, but weren't in our section. She reads off the specials without looking at the table as if she is really annoyed she has to say them. She doesn't have the patience to let others finish ordering (the last person to order a drink was ignored several times). Luckily we didn't have her, but just know that it isn't you - she just shouldn't be in food service. The atmosphere is very nice. There are two different areas - covered and not covered. They have rain shields, but hopefully you can come on an evening with good weather as the views are beautiful. It's breezy, so beware if you wear a dress. Parking can be a little bit of a pain as many of the spots are reserved for the residents of the condos. As with any dinner in St. Thomas, wear bug spray on your legs as there can be gnats. Overall, we will continue to go back as we have had positive experiences and delicious food!

Well My wife myself and 2 Daughters Made reservations and had dinner there. Server was nice, we ordered appetizers Brie and apples received 6 slender slices of apples and small amount of Brie, Bread basket which came with only 4 slices of French bread..those in itself seemed very very conservative and not at all worth what the cost was! Then our server came to take our entrée order and informed us they did not have any lobster or crab they sold out the night before! That should have been the 1st thing to inform us of before we ordered anything! My Goodness that's what your supposed to be known for your Stuffed Lobster and Lobster entrées! And that's what we came for, now we're committed to having dinner since we've had appetizers. We order 2 surf and turf with substitutions since they have no Lobster or crab? We order 1 with shrimp cocktail and strip steak it medium rare it comes out with flat iron steak well and coconut shrimp, uhg! The other is fish and flat iron steak medium rare it comes out with fish and strip steak that was a hunk of fat and tendons and little beef cooked well. And they charged us full price of surf (Lobster or crab) turf ( flat iron or strip steak) of $79.00 for each of these entrées Daughters had Egg plant Parmigiano and the other had strip steak medium rare that came out medium well! And Fries. They came close to cooking this steak per order but seriously! Had to ask twice to have waters ,sodas refilled not very attentive and one of those times I got the water poured all over my hand. I may have certain expectations of my culinary experiences but this experience did not meet one of them! With tip our bill was $349.00 and was not worth half of that! I kept the receipt for a souvenir and reminder to never patronize this Establishment again...the Positive was the veiw and I was already paying for that in my villa rental..we Visit the Islands every year for the last 11 and have never had a dining experience as bad as this one! If you want a fantastic meal and...

We stayed in the resort and eat at Mim's on the 30th Dec. The experience was subpar. We waited over an hour for a table, about 15-20 minutes after being seated to be assigned a server and well over an hour to get the food. Anticipating a busy evening for the restaurant, I had made a reservation for 8 pm but I don't think that had any meaning because we got seated only a little after 9. Agreed, I wanted a table outside but an outside table was available but supposedly reserved by the owner for someone. We ultimately ended up getting that very table at 9 but they couldn't seat the 3 of use because they didn't have a 3rd chair for the table! I felt that at this point the restaurant should've done a little more to salvage the experience for us but it took them 15-20 minutes to assign a server. The result was that 2 tables that got seated after us in those 15 minutes were able to order ahead of us so we ultimately got the food at 10:15 pm by which time, we were so hungry that we just gobbled a $70 lobster as though it were a Big Mac. The pasta was very average. The curried lobster was overcooked and a little too creamy, but the fish in a mustard sauce was excellent. Which brings us to the tip situation. We wanted to leave a minimal tip because of the experience but we knew that that would directly impact our server who was really good and did her best to make things right for us even though all the issues were outside of her control. So 5 stars for our server but 2 stars to the restaurant.

This was our last evening in St. Thomas and the pursuit of something memorable resulted in a EXPENSIVE evening of frustration. I think the restaurant should've planned for a busy evening or simply not taken a reservation. They had opportunities to make it right but seemed too uncoordinated to...
