So, I wrote a fairly negative review about 6 years ago. And, my brother has been nagging me to come back and try this place again because of his love for their buche. Today I came back and I'm glad I did. I still don't love buche, but that's just a personal thing. I am okay with organ meats, but not in large portions. And these guys serve LARGE portions. I tried the goat taco today and it was fantastic! (Of course it was, that's why the place is named after a goat! duh!) The other cool thing about El Cabrito is that it's so authentic. It literally feels like you've been transported to Mexico. The food is so good and fresh. The salsas are flavorful and spicy. It probably helps if you can speak a little Spanish, but I don't think it'd be totally necessary. Definitely worth checking out imo.
Original review:
I don't consider myself to be squeamish about things. I usually love lengua, cabesa, buche etc. This place had a weird "not fresh" flavor to things. The barbacoa taco was okay, but just kind of boring. The meats were very under seasoned. The salsas were okay, pretty hot. I don't understand what everyone else is raving about in regard to the tortillas. I found them to be very underwhelming. My server was wonderful though. Very friendly and helpful. I don't see myself rushing back here. Taco's Daniel is right around the corner and much...
Read moreFood was ok, not the best, i have not found a good authentic mexican place in utah but this is close, very basic diahes but they love to charge you for preparation?... you want a quesadilla with cheese only or one that has lettuce and toppings? Just put the price prepared and let the customer customize it, not just add a hidden fee because the customer wanted lettuce.
They do get alot of people and place is small but they do have the little buzzards to let you know when its your turn, food did take a while though to get to me but understandable due to the restaurant being full, lengua is not recommended so please order something else if you appreciate your money, it was flavorless.
Tortillas are huge so dont be worried when it says only 3 tortillas included, consider it more like 6.
Parking lot is small but hopefully you find a spot
Theres a guy just chilling in the middle, watching receiving money, maybe they should move him, looks weird that hes just staring at everyone all the time. Doesnt look good
Service was ok, very busy around there but not alot of attention before or after receiving your food so dont expect much
Also its quite pricey so be prepared to spend around 40-60 dollars for 2...
Read moreEl Cabrito is a hidden Gem. I wish I had found this place years ago. I am from Arizona and the thing I miss most is authentic Mexican food; El Cabrito is a place where you can find it here in Utah.
Much like most small off the beaten path eateries, the restaurant seating and decor is closer to that of a fast food chain. What you won't find here is nachos, chimichangas, free chips and salsa. You don't need that stuff when you can order tasty gorditas!
The best thing about this place is their handmade corn tortillas. As far as I know they don't serve flour tortillas, which is no problem for me because what they do serve is delicious! It seems like the name entails, this place specializes in goat. You can find a braised goat stew and taco. Speaking of tacos, the tacos here are big and affordable, so eat up! My husband and I go for the menudo and posole, which I love here because they use the bigger and plumper hominy. My husband likes to order the side of jalapenos with everything; they are roasted and salted. Next time I visit I might order the whole fish which is fried crispy and served with rice...
