Came here tonight for an anniversary dinner and our visit was just OK; service is what negatively influenced this review the most. For starters, it took about 10 minutes for our waiter to come to our table to greet us and take our drink order; not 100% mad about the wait time, I think 20+ minutes is an issue. When he finally came to our table, he didn’t even introduce himself 😑 He straight up just asked what we wanted to drink. Again not mad, but then he brought me the wrong drink lol. Didn’t ask us if we want any appetizers or if we’re ready to order (I guess because he was going to ask after bringing us our alcoholic drinks). Came back with our other drinks and took our order; I reminded him about my tea that he didn’t bring. We ordered chips n salsa, which wasn’t too bad (salsa wasn’t my cup of tea). He finally brought me my tea and when I was drinking my water I noticed something black floating around in my water: it was mold 🥲 I’ve worked in a restaurant before and know that that kind of mold I saw most likely came from the ice machine 🤮 Not only ruins the experience for ME but also for anyone else who has an iced drink. I brought it to his attention and he took it away from me; he didn’t even apologize or offer something else or even brought me another water (which if there’s mold in the ice then I can’t really complain about that). I was about to snap a pic of the moldy ice water but he came by so I didn’t get a chance to get that pic. Our margarita/martini came and they were actually pretty good! Food came out and was disappointed that my enchiladas verdes didn’t come with cheese on top; double checked the menu and saw that it does in fact not come with cheese, so that’s a fault on my end for not reading correctly. Fun fact: our food runner was more nicer and interactive than our waiter 😬 Give that dude a raise/promotion! My food wasn’t too bad, I’d probably rate it a 7/10. Tortillas were yummy! Waiter came by to bus our plates, didn’t offer any dessert or refill on drinks (alcoholic or nonalcoholic). Received our check, paid, and got through hell outta dodge. I wanted to talk to the manager but I was so desperate to go home that I didn’t have time; maybe I will call to report what happened, although I STILL don’t know the waiter’s name so I don’t know how much constructive criticism my review would offer. 2 stars are for the only good things about this dinner: martini, tortillas, and food runner; I probably won’t return but mainly for quality of food and not necessarily the service we received today. I’m hoping that tonight was just an off night for everyone. Side note: we went to Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop down the road for dessert and they were AMAZING! 10/10 redeemed the night, I highly...
Read moreI initially ordered the shrimp fajitas which had a decent price point, but the server suggested a mixed platter with beef, and I ended up deciding on the beef and shrimp because it sounded good.
I want to let potential future patrons know to make sure you observe the fine print on the mixed fajita platter on the menu that I believe was 2699.
In my case I was charged $40.99 (!!!) Why? It appeared on my bill that I ordered the beef fajitas and then 8 shrimp were added in which there was an UPCHARGE for each shrimp.
I adjust assumed that I was getting a mix of equal portions of the beef and shrimp and then I would be paying 2699. The server didn’t ask if I wanted. What maybe a shrimp? I agreed but once again, I was hoping it was just a proportionality thing for the mixed platter.
I was too embarrassed to say something to our server because he was kind of us.
I did feel kind of taken advantage of in a way because how my mixed platter came out how I was charged, would be to the advantage for the server for a bigger tip. I was not happy about this in the end .
I wish I was let to know I was not getting a true mixed platter, but he beef fajita along with eight additional added shrimp.
In terms of how my fajitas came out, I was disappointed because they were probably 30% overcooked and NOT very tender. The only partial saving grace that I can speak positively about was that the taste profile was decent.
We went to Mamacita’s yesterday in San Antonio, and in contrast at Mamacita’s I had the best beef fajitas I have had anywhere up this time! Mamacitas had the most tender, marinated, and seasoned beef I have ever had; and the onions and mixed peppers were superior by leaps and bounds, compared to La Hacienda.
The beef fajitas at La Hacienda needed to be cooked less, possibly marinated for far longer, and possibly have an even better cut of meat. The green peppers and onions were not cooked very well, lacked flavor, and the peppers were too crunchy.
The beans and rice were average. Overall, my beef fajita dinner was a grand disappointment, and I can only give it a 2 out of five stars because the beef still had good flavor. The shrimp were not very flavorful, average-sized (large) and a big disappointment also , especially on the 12 to 13 dollars extra added to my bill.
La Hacienda does have a nice atmosphere.
A family of 5 of us spent $205 after tip and we spent less than half of that last night and enjoyed our...
Read moreWe have been fans of this place since it opened. We used to come out every weekend with family to enjoy the food. We moved away but still come with a large group every few months when we visit. The food and service have all taken a nose dive in the last year. I'm sure they want to blame it on covid but the rest of the world has the same issues and the quality of product should not decline.
1)the service is sparce. We asked to be seated outside, they said they weren't serving on the patio. 10 minuteslater there were people seated on the patio. We barely got a refill on drinks and they didn't not visit any more once they dropped off the ticket. They didn't ask if we wanted desert, coffee or refills.... on a $400 tab, 5-10% extra in tip would have happened.
this has turned into an upper middle class americanized joint. You have to pay $2 for a serving of chips that is 1/3 the size that the basket used to be. In spite of this I asked the server to keep serving us chips like they usually would and the price didn't matter.... we got served the chips once.
their food has been dumbed down for weak taste buds. The seasoning is at about 60% of what it used to be. The parillada is my go to and they do not serve you rice with it and dropped a few other items off the mixture. The enchiladas were barely passable for taco bell food.
the Margaritas are still good.
The Sunday afternoon crowd was very limited with a ton of seating available so the service should have been on point. There were plenty of servers. From the looks of the crowds the last few times we were here it seems I'm not the only one that feels this way. I rarely take the time to write a review, I'm sure the management will give some short, weak reply, I sat on it for a few days but my disappointment made me want to write this. In the future we will likely stick with someplace less expensive with better...
