El Gallito Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in San Benito

3 stars for the fast friendly service 2 stars for the food. Heard great things about this restaurant. It's normally very busy and you have to wait to be seated. 02/14/22. Went in for lunch, the chips and dips were super yummy and the Ice tea was strong. The main course came out and that's where the fun ended. We ordered 3 different meals and all 3 were BLAND. I mean zero flavor. I didn't even eat half of mine because it was that bland and horrible. Not sure what kind of Mexican food they are trying to service, TexMex, Mexico City, or coastal South Mexico? Whatever it was, it missed the mark.. Heck it missed the entire target! I really wanted to like this establishment and add it to the RGV food format. Unfortunately, it will be checked off as No bueno......

I haven't had a Chile Relleno in years. Probably because I never had a good one. I never got the hype because I had never had one spectacular before. My friend recommended the Beef Chile Relleno and I said "Ditto". She has never steered me wrong when it comes to Mexican food. When the plate arrived I knew that I would be taking half of it home due to the sheer size. But, I was wrong. I left a few grains of rice on the plate. It was sooo delicious that I drove by to show another friend where it was because she said that she hadn't had a good chile relleno in years either. El Gallito, don't change a thing! My wife met me here for lunch and she had already ordered my food before I got there. Sat down waited for about 5 mins to see if the waitress would come ask if I needed anything (which I did). After a little over 5 minutes, no one came, so I got up and went to get my own silverware and extra napkins from their services area. Still after that, no one came to ask if we were ok (which i wasn't). I still hadn't gotten a drink and went the whole 40 mins. I was there with nothing to drink and no waitress.
