Cafe Don Juan — Restaurant in San Juan

I’ve been a loyal customer at this location for over four years but my recent experience was deeply disappointing and concerning.

I ordered an iced dirty chai, but it was completely mishandled. The drink was not mixed properly, what I received was essentially a glass of milk with unmixed chai powder sitting at the bottom. When I took a sip I inhaled dry chai powder, which was unpleasant and honestly unacceptable. I politely asked if they could remake the drink and explained the issue, but instead of preparing a new one, the barista went to the back and just added even more chai powder. The result was a gritty and oversaturated mess that ended up making me sick, I experienced a stomach ache and diarrhea for the next two days.

As a barista myself, I know how this drink should be made and it was frustrating to see such a careless approach. On top of that, I also ordered a mocha cookie which was ice cold, rock hard and tasted stale like it had been sitting out for far too long.

What’s especially concerning is that I’m prone to seizures and consuming more caffeine than expected can pose a very serious health risk. By adding more chai instead of remaking the drink, they not only ignored my request but also put my health at risk. When I tried to address this they refused to remake the drink or issue a refund.

To make matters worse, the store was a complete disaster. Despite having four baristas on a busy Friday, they all seemed like new hires with little training or oversight. My partner ordered a guava empanada, clearly confirming the flavor twice, yet was still given the wrong item.

It’s really disheartening to see this decline in quality and service at a place we’ve supported for years. This experience genuinely impacts our trust in the brand and makes us question whether we can continue...

Decent coffee and amicable environment from staff, wether you are on the go or having a sit down. Unfortunately the pastries are lacking.
