Marina Restaurant — Restaurant in San Leandro

I have been coming to this restaurant for years and have watched the food quality slowly decline. I won't be back. Yesterday I ordered a chicken burrito and a chili verde plate. The chicken in the burrito had no flavor and little spice. The pork in the chili verde tasted like it had not been simmered in the verde sauce and the verde sauce was very bland tasting with no spices or heat.....maybe canned sauce? The current owners purchased this restaurant from the original owner over 15 years ago. The original owner was a great cook with a wonderful, friendly personality. The current owners are just the opposite and after all these years still speak little English. Wow and Wow. Was staying overnight at the Marina Inn and searched for a place for dinner. Fortunately, I chose a winner with Marina. My wife had an Italian Chicken Dinner and I had a Mexican chicken dinner. Also ordered a bowl of clam chowder. Everything was excellent, fresh, delicious, and plentiful. We got takeout as currently there is no dine in option. As I mentioned, plentiful was an understatement. We were packing for a flight and had a luggage scale out at the hotel. Our two meals with soup actually was right at 7 pounds of food and unfortunately, more than we could possibly eat. I've been coming to this place since it opened. I grew up on the next block and this has been my favorite Mexican restaurant for my ENTIRE life. I've moved away, but about 5 years ago I came here and the food was exactly as I remembered. This weekend I was in town and noticed the rice is no longer the fluffy rice they used to serve, and the enchilada sauce is not the red sauce it used to be. It's now a brown gravy flavor.
