Horrible Experience

My best friend and I live about an hour and a half away but went to DuBois today for two reasons, one of which was to have lunch at Dutch Pantry.

We were not greeted. The young man simply grabbed two menus, led us to a table, and asked what we wanted to drink. I ordered sweet tea and my friend ordered coffee. He brought my tea and poured coffee for her into the cup that was on the table. The cup was dirty.

Our waitress came and I ordered an appetizer and asked what the soup of the day was. It was potato so I asked for a cup of soup. We placed our meal order too.

Our meals came. My friend's mashed potatoes were cold. I never got my soup despite asking about it a second time and we never got the appetizer. (The waitress said she didn't hear me order it but I'm pretty sure she acknowledged it at the time.) She offered to put the order in for me (after I said to cancel it and the soup) but we were halfway done with our meals so what was the point of an appetizer?

She never offered to refill my drink and did not offer dessert, despite my having said when she first came to the table that I was going to want an apple fritter sundae (which is sort of the whole point of going to Dutch Pantry to begin with).

My friend went to use the ladies' room and came out and said she would wait because it was a mess.

When I was paying and asked to speak to the manager I was told that he had just left to go to the bank but would be back. I called a little later and was told that he wasn't in today but would be...

I don't often leave bad reviews, but when I do... - We stopped here for dinner on our way up to visit family. We didn't have to wait very long for the two of us to be seated (6:10p.m.) by a very friendly hostess and our waitress came by for our drink order soon after. My tiny, wilted, rotten tomato, "Pantry Salad" should have been a harbinger of what was about to (NOT) come! 🤣 But, we were too enthralled in the people watching- darling, barefoot, (very likely) inbred, toothless, morbidly obese folks gumming their kielbasa, soft green beans n mashed potatoes- to even notice that an hour had gone by and that our simple meals of Cheeseburger and BLT hadn't yet been delivered. Sometime (around 6:50p.m.) during our (no) dinner and a show, our sweet waitress came by to apologize for the wait, stating they were extra busy and she wasn't sure what was taking the kitchen so long. We said no worries and continued enjoying the show. By 7:15, we'd watched another table sat and served so wondered to each other whether or not our order had even been placed! 😭😂 When our server came by she, yet again, said she didn't know what was taking the kitchen so long and we gently let her know we'd be leaving. My husband spoke with the manager who showed him that the ticket had been placed at 7:10p.m. an hour AFTER we'd been sat. I always say, I'll try anything twice, sadly this won't be true for The Dutch Pantry...

Stopped for lunch during our drive home to NY from Ohio. We were a bit skeptical, but after reading other reviews we decided to give it a try. We’re glad we did. The food was reasonably priced and very good, and portions were plentiful. We ordered a bacon cheeseburger, the Reuben sandwich and country fried steak. The burger was average but still very good, the Reuben was very good (better than I was expecting), but the country fried steak was probably the best choice. We had curly fries, onion rings and sweet corn as the side all were good. Even the pickles, lettuce and tomatoes garnish was delish. We wouldn’t normally order a dessert with lunch but how often do you see Shoo Fly Pie on the menu? We ordered and and it didn’t disappoint. It was definitely sweet, but not too sweet and it didn’t have an overpowering taste of molasses. The waitress was super friendly and very attentive to our needs and was doing everything in her power to make our meal/visit as enjoyable as possible. She even put three dollop of whipped cream on the dessert plate so we’d each have our own. I don’t know how often we’ll be in this area but if we ever find ourselves passing by this way again, we will definitely be stopping in for a meal. It’s nice to support small/local businesses and this one is...

I was on a long road trip home and realized I needed to do something time sensitive work on my phone. So I randomly pulled over here. The staff was very friendly and mostly left me to my own devices after ordering, which is what I wanted! I ordered something called a haystack. It was a heavy meal! Really stuck the ribs and weighed me down but… that’s not to say it was bad! This was 8 years ago, in August 2015, so clearly it’s still in my mind. I wish I had an excuse to drive all the way out there and have it again! Oh, and because I saw a bunch of confused people in the reviews… “Dutch” doesn’t refer to the people from the Netherlands, but rather it refers to the large German population that immigrated to PA. Dutch came from the German word for themselves “Deutsch”. Dutch used to just refer to all German Language groups in the 1600-1800’s which is when these immigrants came here!

Genuinely kind and beautiful people work here My waitress was so pleasant. I had to step out, after she served us dinner. 10min later I returned and she offered to heat up my meal. It shows she was paying attention and very thoughtful. The tall gentleman at the cashier was pleasant to talk to, we bought some awesome jam, try the fig jam, it’s so good. Make sure you buy more than one because it won’t last long :) You will love it. The tall gentleman wrapped the jam jars so well and neatly it was fun watching, we paid for our meals and the jam we went out and there I see the gentleman racing to get to me before I drive away. He had my favourite glass water bottle that I brought with me from Toronto. I can’t express how much fun I had at this place. I will make sure I stop next time I am heading south. Make sure you try the cabbage beef meal it was delicious. Thank you all :)

Outstanding !!! - we were on a trip to Duncansville PA when we spotted Dutch Pantry. The food was delicious with very large portions and extremely reasonably priced. They have tons of choices in the menu. The staff were wonderful as well. They have gift shop items at the front of the restaurant that were all very reasonable as well. They have also have desserts to take home - we ordered 2 orders of the Apple Fritters (13) in each order - they had them ready when we were done eating and also have us separate containers of powdered sugar with them. I can’t say enough good things about our experience- we will definitely be back even though we live about 2.5 hours away. You won’t be disappointed. A+++
