Ok, so first off - I am NOT a review writer--for this place, I just had to!
I have been waiting for this restaurant to open since I heard the owners of The Dimmick Inn & Steakhouse in Milford, PA had a hand in it. My friend owns a house in Montague and we pass this place on our way there every time we go up. There is a bar that we frequent a little further down (Gyp's Tavern) with a BREATHTAKING view and MH shares this same view! I am from northeast Jersey and, trust me, I know great food!
We arrived at the Mountain House Tavern and Grill at around 8 PM on a Saturday night. The decor was very welcoming even from the outside. There are rocking chairs on the front porch and small bistro-like tables set up which added a very hospitable touch. From the minute we walked in, the overall feel and ambiance of the place was awesome. The restaurant was a little busy but we figured it would be since it was a Saturday night. We were told the wait was going to be a couple minutes so we decided to go into the bar to wait and one of the customers offered their pub table to my boyfriend and I (very sweet!). We did not wait longer than 5 minutes and were seated in, what I would have to say, was the best seat in the house (pictures attached). I felt like we were secluded and eating in a private area. It was awesome. The waitress (Danielle) was wonderful--helpful and very personable. Upon being seated, we were brought waters with lemon, without having to ask. We then ordered drinks--which was one of the coldest, most delicious Blue Moons I have ever had! The food was amazing--we split clams in a white wine, butter, garlic sauce. (I had these at the Dimmick in Milford and was obsessed--they were exactly the same! Highly Recommended!) We also split the Delmonico steak which came with REAL mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe and it was was absolutely delicious!! So, the decor, the waitress, the service, the drinks, and the food -- all 5 stars! (Even the bathroom was so cute! There were quotes written on the door in chalk--a very rustic and homey feel all around!)
After eating, we decided to have a few drinks at the bar, where we were fortunate enough to meet the owners. A beautiful couple originally from Brooklyn who moved up to the area about twelve years ago. They were VERY pleasant and seemed to have a very good and positive relationship not only with their staff but also with their customers. We had the pleasure of chatting with them for a bit and I am very glad to have had the chance to meet them.
It was, overall, over a 5-star(++++) experience. We will FOR SURE be coming back to the MH Tavern & Grill. I cannot wait to try all of the other food listed on the menu, which even their menu titles were inviting (Go Green for salads, Stick a Fork In It for entrees, etc) I included a picture of their menu as well. A small menu but definitely offers a vast variety of delicious food. (I loathe long menus--they give me anxiety so this was perfect!) As a couple who eats out very often, I would HIGHLY, 1000%, FOR SURE recommend this restaurant. YOU WILL NOT BE...
Read moreI pass the Mountain House to and from work everyday. After seeing the extensive renovations complete, a lot of cars in the parking lot since it's been open, and the many positive reviews, I thought we'd give it a try. Huge mistake! A total of 6 of us had dinner there and each and every dish was poorly executed. In fact, it was horrible on every level. Small portions, hard pork chops, tasteless fish tacos, half cooked pasta, even the burger was small and greasy. The waitress claimed that the chef went home earlier because his wife was having a baby. She was barely attentive to our drink needs. I spoke to a co-worker who's husband and her had a bad meal there. They were told that the food delivery truck broke down, so most of the dishes were un-available. To be fair, the renovations are nice (except bathrooms). Rest does have a nice atmosphere. Prices were ok. Not expensive, but since portions and food sucked, not worth it one bit. My understanding is that the owners also own the Dimmick Inn in Milford, PA. A place with a good reputation so I'm very surprised that our experience was so poor. I can only surmise that the positive reviews are by friends of the owners and all the cars in the parking lot every night is because of the bar. The only way a bar/restaurant will make it is the food and that was a...
Read moreOn 2 May 2024 I decided to stop by at the Mountain House. I walked in and it is an amazing interior. It’s a bit of rustic, a little bit of industrial and very aesthetically pleasing. as I was meeting a friend there I obviously got there way too early so I sat at the bar and enjoyed a nice beer with some amazing fried pickles. Anybody that knows me knows my weakness is fried pickles and I have to say these are some of the best I’ve had in my almost 60 years. They were crispy and crunchy was spicy and I wish I would’ve gotten a couple more orders. When my friend arrived, we went out and sat by the lake. We both ordered the New York strip steak, which was cooked exactly the way we wanted it and came with a sauce and some onions and mushrooms on top. Unfortunately, I did not get any pictures of the mistake because as soon as it was put in front of me, I just dug in and started eating. It wasn’t until I was almost done that I said dang it. I should’ve taken a picture. The steak came with vegetables and potatoes. I’m going back to the mountain house to try the fish tacos and the tzatziki bowl. Those caught my eye, but I didn’t have enough room in my belly. And you can see from the picture I attached. It is a great view, and it was very peaceful...
