Summary- DO NOT EAT HERE ON A HOLIDAY or a BUSY WEEKEND. STAY AWAY FROM THE LOBSTER ROLL. ALWAYS GET A CURRENT PRICE FOR "LG", "DOUBLE" or "MARKET PRICED" ITEMS BEFORE YOU ORDER! MAY 2002-OVERPRICED and POOR FOOD QUALITY. I am regular customer of Lord's Clam Box for several years. I never had any major complaints. The food has always been hot and fresh; although their portion sizes have decreased dramatically and their prices have crept up significantly as the Pandemic wore on...their food quality was consistently positive. the service is friendly and prompt. A good, dependable and pleasant place to order from for Mother's Day 2022.
No. I was so wrong. Perhaps it was due to the Holiday or a Staff shortage. No real actual excuse I can give for them. I ordered a lobster roll with drawn butter on the side. The roll was a soggy and cold; a once toasted hot dog bun. They gave me the end, the heel of a hot dog bun package...it was all hard "crust" on one side. The bun was cold, soggy and stale all at the same time. The 1/4 cup, 4 TABLE SPOONS of lobster was chopped up fine into 1/2 inch cubed pieces; it also was cold. I mean previously frozen cold, bland lobster with the consistency of rubber. Even the drawn butter was gross. They had not stirred or kept it warm so it was separated. I got a small plastic tbl spoon of "oil"...it was tasteless and just simply inedible liquid "grease" not melted butter. Even the paltry serving of a 1 tbl spoon of shredded, wilted lettuce was shamefully tasteless and soggy; it was so finely shredded to the texture of lawn grass that it offered no compliment to the sandwich. It's "Market Price" was $13.99 for the day...an absolutely ridiculous price for what I received. I refuse to consider it an actual Maine Lobster Roll; it was simple so bad.
In summary the Maine Lobster Roll is a Sandwich...it does not take a great chef to make a good sandwich. Together it is simple...lobster, lettuce and a roll; they ruined it all...and I ate it. It was inedible, but I was hungry. It was tasteless; each part worse as I tried to choke it down as my Mother's Day Special Meal paid for me by my son; a fact which made me feel guilty about making any compliant. I smiled and swallowed as I gagged on the greasy "butter"; chewed maniacally on the bland, rubbery lobster so tough, I didn't know whether I could keep from throwing up.
The total bill was $47.56. A Lg Onion Ring was $11.49; MORE expensive than a lg Seafood Chowder which was hot & delicious as always & about $2.00 less than a Lobster Roll. Why? The Onion Rings were good...a "large" serving? No. There were14 onion rings in my serving. $11.49? Ridiculous! Considering that was the only other item I had to eat...I counted every bite. The Fried Mushrooms and Rolls were eaten by son but seemed to be the same good quality as the Chowder and Rings.
I remained disappointed, distraught & hungry for the rest of my "special day" wondering how a simple sandwich and a bunch of careless, teenaged, improperly trained, and awful "cooks" could have ruined it for me but they did. Happy...
Read moreI am a life long resident of Sanford since I was a child I visited lords in wells . Imagine my excitement when lords came to Sanford . 2 years ago I moved to Florida for winter and come back to Maine in the summer. Since you can’t get any decent seafood in Florida one of the first things I do is go to lords and get a big bowl of lobster stew and a pint of clams. You can only imagine the disappointment when I stepped to the counter and ordered a bowl of lobsters stew and ... and the young lady stoped me and informed me they don’t have lobster stew . I had to step away from the counter because I never anticipated that I would be at lords and no lobster stew . I began to scan the menus and there was no lobster stew . You may have had a good reason to eliminate it in your own mind but you will live to regret it . I kept scanning the menus but all I kept thinking was where can I get my fried clams and lobster stew . This is like McDonald’s eliminating the big Mack or Burger King eliminating the whopper or the steakhouse in wells eliminating steak . I cant help but say what the hell were you thinking . This is LORDS. This is our place not yours . But we left and went to wells (imagine that) and found Billy’s chowder house great lobster stew and clams . Now when we drive 1500 miles to spend the summer in Maine our first stop and manny more throughout the summer will be at Billy’s or teds fried clams because some fool made the decision to eliminate lobster stew at a historic Maine seafood restaurant . I just don’t understand , whoever made that decision should...
Read moreVery clean restaurant inside AND outside. Very friendly, helpful employees. My wife and I each ordered a double box. We both expected a little more food for $21 each. My wife had whole belly clams and scallops. She said the scallops were very good and flavorful. The whole belly clams were kind of bland and average, at best. I had oysters and scallops. I also enjoyed the scallops. They were lightly breaded, done to perfection and very flavorful. The oysters were tasteless, very mushy. I only got four oysters and two that were just breading, no seafood. With the double box, you get french fries, pineapple cole slaw and a roll with butter. The fries were hot, crisp and not soggy. Again, a few more fries were expected. The pineapple coleslaw was exceptional. The roll was fresh and of high quality. We also ordered a pint of the Lord's Chuckwagon baked beans. My wife thought they were average. I thought they were exceptional and will order them again. Lord's Clam Box also has a dessert case with a decent selection. We ordered strawberry cream cake and chocolate cake. Both were very good. This could have been a five star rating if they increased the serving size by a small amount and were more consistent with the quality of the entrees. I gave Lord's a four star instead of three because of the exceptional cleanliness inside and having a very clean outside and the friendly employees. It's definitely worth another...
