Let me just say that to me its not the real deal mexican food. Read the post and it can explain. The guacamole was ok. No hint of lime/ lemon which makes me think they were in a hurry. I liked the tortillas, they were homemade you can tell by looking at them but as for authentic mexican food goes NO! I was very disappointed. This is texmex which is american Mexican food. I am from the southwest and have been to mexico and have had actual mexican food. The carne asada is not actual carne asada steak it is fatty so not the original carne asada which doesnt have fat. The burritos are like something you get off of a food truck. I have been in mexico several times and have had great mexican cuisines there and in the southwestern US such as Arizona and California. I could tell it was texmex the way it was made. The carne asada burrito also didnt have the avacado salsa which comes in the burrito but was not served in ours. I'm a cook and have been to many so called " aunthentic mexican food" resturaunts but have yet to actually find a actual mexican food place. I tried it and it was not for me i actually had my hopes up and was very disappointed. Later i asked what part of Mexico was the family from was told Northern Mexico so i laughed and said ive been to Nogales, Naco, Tijuana and all up through the northern mexican border only to find out they were from Laredo Texas. And there it is the American version of Mexican food called texmex. Also very surprising was the lack of Menudo which is a great soup btw. (Dont try the store version it disappoints.) but that is something you find at about every mexican restaurant. And lack of spice usually gets you too. The texmex version is more subtle then the actual spiciness of traditional mexican cuisine. So thank you but no thank you i...
Read moreWe have frequented El Mexicano regularly for years. The last few times we have gone in, the service has been wretched. Tonight completely sealed the deal for me and my family. We will not be returning. First of all, the floors are extremely slippery. Tile floors with the wrong cleaner makes them an actual liability. I am 9 months pregnant and slipped on the way in and was wearing flats. To make matters worse, my party of 6 waited for 15 minutes before we were even seen. The only reason we got drinks in that timeframe was because one of the ladies from my party went to the front to explain our frustration. We FINALLY placed our order and it took another 10-15 minutes to get our drinks. The food is good, it’s always good, but we never saw our server after the initial drop off. No one came to see if we needed refills on water, etc. After we were finished our meal, it took another 20 minutes before we got our check and boxes. This was only AFTER, yet again, we went to the front to request this to be done. When we finally got our checks and boxes, my 2 year old son slipped on the floor and landed back on his head. I then went to his aid, quickly and slipped on the floor that is NOT cleaned correctly. I tweaked my back very badly and could barely walk to my car. Did I mention, I’m 9 months pregnant? My husband and I own a restaurant and the floors alone are a massive liability, not to mention how poor the service is. It’s embarrassing and if my child or I had fallen, we would own that pathetic excuse for a restaurant. I only recommend going if you are looking to kill hours of time and don’t care when you get your drinks,...
Read moreWe had takeaway from El Mexicano last night. After a long day we needed some comfort food and having just moved to the area were pleased to find a place that serves good authentic fare. The food took a little bit to come out (we ordered a lot), but it was obvious they do a lot of takeaway and DoorDash orders so we didn't mind at all. The flavor, quality, and friendly service made up for any wait time.
My husband tried the burrito with tomatillo verdes sauce and I had the taco platter (frijole and hongo). Just curious to see what their vegetarian tacos were like, I was excited to try both. I really enjoyed them, especially the mushroom (hongo). So much flavor packed into each bite! Thankfully my husband let me try some of his burrito so I could have a taste of that too. It was also very flavorful (he opted for chicken tinga).
We also tried the coconut shrimp (reminded me of Cocos in Biddeford, one of my favorite places), the catina salad, and the fried ice cream (which kind of tasted like a churro on the outside). Across the board we were very satisfied with our meals and look forward to coming back in person to eat. I know I'll definitely be getting the hongo taco and coconut shrimp again - that pineapple sauce is 🤌🏻👨🍳💋
edit: We've had takeaway a few more times from them and the quality is still there. Even the other night when they were running behind, our food was still very delicious. Thus far we have tried the burritos, chimichanga, tacos and bowls along with Ana's cheese fondue (actually, this might be my...
