Turtle’s Tiki Bar — Restaurant in Sanibel

Our son took us here for lunch. We sat poolside and had drinks, appetizers and three entrees. We were having a pleasant afternoon and enjoying our conversation. Food was mediocre. When we were finished, my son didn't even ask for the check. He just took out his credit card and gave it to our waiter. The payment was processed and the waiter was tipped over 30%, as my son manages two restaurants in NYC and is aware of how COVID has affected the restaurant business. As we were leaving, a female waitress, who did not even wait on us, came charging behind us and asked "did you guys pay your bill?" I was so embarrassed! She shouted this out and everyone looked at us! My son responded right away "of course I did." She turned around and a second waitress runs up and asks again "did you guys pay your bill?" How humiliating! My son stopped and again said "yes I did!" Not once, but twice! As we continued to walk out, my son stopped and said this is not right! He went back in and told our waiter what had happened. More than a few minutes had passed, so I went back to see what was happening. As I approached them, the second waitress who had run up behind us was saying "it was my bad!" to which my son replied "yes, it was and you should be properly trained to do your job!" This was the first time something like this ever happened to us. Was it because we were black? I did not observe them running after anyone else asking if their bill had been paid! My son was so upset over this, that he actually went back the following day to speak with the manager. I was at work when he called me to say the manager wanted to speak to me. I asked her if that's the way they treat all their customers or just the brown- skinned ones. She said that's not how they treat their customers and next time I was in the area to come in and she would take care of me. I told her I would never step foot in that restaurant again. I am a travel agent for Expedia Cruises and will never recommend this restaurant to anyone! Beware! #Badcustomerservice...

A fantastic place ruined by biting bugs. My grilled pineapple chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries was superb. The Mai Tai was awesome and the server was terrific. But the bugs were biting. I even used bug spray and it didn’t help much. They were landing everywhere. Including in my drink. I went out to my car, a convertible, and there were bugs all over it. Very chill pool bar. We are staying elsewhere but didn't want to do anything special for dinner. We figured we'd come by here for a few drinks and a bite. Nice atmosphere, not busy at dinnertime, good service. Drinks were ok, but the fish tacos were terrible (really strange mix of components and the fish was also old).
