Was in Sault Ste Marie during lunch hrs. Asked a local at a gas station where was a good place to eat. They didn't hesitate... West Pier Dr In. We go there all the time. It's a small place and you pull up and a friendly employee comes out to your car window and takes your order. Menu was simple and was on a plain white piece of paper. The double bacon cheeseburger was $14.50 fries $4.00. I asked... how big is that burger for $14? Reply... two half pound patties. Wow, I got the single and my friend had to get the double. I also got the fries. The bag of fries was so big that's all I could eat. They were hot, large crinkle cut and very good. The burger is being saved for when I am hungry. My buddy ate the double and he said every bite was very good. He was full after the burger. If I was a betting man I'd say that their shakes and other stuff is all quality. Might not ever get back to Sault Ste Marie but if I do... I'll bring a bigger appetite and be sure to stop by. You should too.

Now this was a real throw-back type dining experience. There is no seating inside or tables on the outside … the waitresses are basically Car-hops. When you park the Car-hop waitresses will come to you at your car, take your order, and deliver it to you in typical fast food type bags like you get at BK or McD for you to eat in your car. Understand there are no parking spots with billboard menu like at A&W or Sonic … it is a rough dirt & grass parking lot with parking around the perimeter. The menu is limited … basic Burgers, Dogs, Fries, onion rings, etc. The food was delicious and portion sizes huge. Burger is ½ lb of meat cooked to order and fresh with your choice of toppings. Fries and Onion rings are flavorful and crispy and portion size is enough for 2-3 to share. Prices are really good when you say I can get a ½ lb cheeseburger for $7. Well worth going back again and again. Forget any other Hamburger joint.

West Pier hits it out of the pan every time we visit. Delicious cheese and grease oozing burgers made fresh and served hot. Burgers made-to-order in basically whatever combination you can think of. The crinkle cut fries are served in a huge belly-busting amount and hot directly from the fryer. Believe me when I say that the fries are hot because I actually got a third-degree burn on my right middle finger from one on them. I love crinkle cut fries because it is my opinion that they hold salt better than other fries. They have a tasty selection of malts if you have enough room after eating a burger and fries. What I have listed are the only things I've tried, and I can not speak on any other menu items. West Pier has a nice menu, offering many other selections that I'm sure will be pleasing for just about any palate.

The only negative thing I can say about the place is that it is cash only and I rarely carry that dirty money so If I want to get some food I have to drive to an ATM first.

I know the debit/credit cards have a surcharge for the business but I would eat here more often if they allowed the cards. Do the benefits overall outweigh the costs as whole? I don't know. For me personally I would eat there more. I eat here during summer when it is opened once every two weeks . And I know it is a slight inconvenience but time is money and so is gas. This causes me to not eat here as much I would if I had the option to use debit.

I would eat here once to twice per week as opposed to once every two weeks. But we do have a large elderly community here (our town is slowly dying LOL LMAO) and a lot of them are old school on many things in general and that includes always having and paying with cash. So they are probably making the best decision for themselves and their business. I personally find it annoying but I'm just one guy. The fact that I still both look forward to it opening and go there despite this minor issue shows it has good food. And I am a really lazy guy. I cannot emphasize...

Our upper peninsula trips always include a stop at this establishment. The food is greasy and fattening but ridiculously delicious. This place takes cash only, CASH MONEY, so do plan accordingly.

I've personally eaten here over a dozen times and even have done a Clyde's vs West Pier challenge eating both simultaneously, West Pier comes out ahead every time.

You might be tempted for a mere $3 more to add a double patty. We have found that it simply gets to be too big and messy. Almost to the point it's an edible or you need utensils. It tastes amazing but we would highly recommend you either get two single patties. (The double patty is a pound of meat)

Overall we love this restaurant and hope it never goes out of business. We love taking the food to watch the ships at various parks. Utilizing french fries as currency to win over the love of seagulls.

If I found out tomorrow morning that this restaurant was closing, I would make a specific and special trip just to have it one last time even if it meant in 8 hour round trip drive total.

Here's to many more great years. Clyde's is not...

Extremely dissatisfied!! So im new to the area and was told how i must try this food. So i placed an order to go when i went to go pick up the food the waitress stated that they did not accept credit cards only local checks or cash. I asked her where the closes Atm was and she had told me, which was about a 10 min drive. She then went inside and told them and came out told me food had been sitting there for 15 mins and i told her no ill pass it will be too cold. I apologized she thanked me i left. Little to my suprise i get a call at my work from the owner Patty who was extremely rude, i told her what happen she said it's not there responsibility to tell people they don't accept credit cards and how she had been in business since 19 something or another and everyone knows this. I explained again i just moved here and had no idea. Also informed her that her employee acted like it was no big deal i didn't want the food anymore. She then threaten to call the cops and press criminal charges all for a 30.00 food bill . This is all just ridiculous to me : ( so sad needles to say i will NEVER...
