⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3 out of 5)
We visited Twin Oaks Restaurant last night and had a pretty mixed experience, though I see potential in the place.
First impressions were great. The restaurant looks brand new and modern, and we were warmly greeted by a sweet lady at the door. The atmosphere was relaxing with someone playing piano in the background, which added a nice touch. I was honestly expecting the prices to be on the higher end, but it turned out to be pretty reasonable.
We ordered the sampler platter with brisket, barbecue, and ribs — the flavors were solid overall. We also got an appetizer of fried mushrooms. Heads up: these are whole mushrooms, not the sliced kind. They were okay, but I think slicing them would’ve made for a better bite — more crunch and even breading.
We did run into a few service hiccups. It felt like the kitchen was struggling to keep things flowing — food came out in pieces. The cheese fries had clearly been sitting for a bit and were cold when they reached our table. When our entrée came, the sides didn’t arrive until afterward, which was a bit frustrating. The bacon-wrapped asparagus was a letdown — undercooked, oddly prepped, and not nearly enough of it.
Another odd thing: we had to wait for them to brew tea, which isn’t something I’ve ever had happen at a sit-down place. Appreciate the effort, but that’s something that should already be ready to go. Also had to ask three times for lemons, which got a little tiring.
All in all, it wasn't a terrible experience — I’ve definitely had worse — but there’s room for improvement in both the kitchen timing and how some of the sides are prepped and served. With a little more consistency, Twin Oaks could...
Read moreThis was our 3rd visit. The 1st was excellent, though food took a while. The 2nd visit was hubby & friend, and their experience was not good at all. This 3rd visit was overall very good. Our server, Sam, didn't stop for a minute - yet was helpful & friendly. She truly made it worth trying one more time. My only complaint was their "buffet" - it was not all you can eat, and you could only choose certain items (I personally like a buffet so I can try just a little bit of a new food, and go back for more if I like it... can't do that, here). My error may be because in other states (NH, MA, VA, FL, et al) a "buffet" implied all you can eat, and that is what I expected. When I discovered it wasn't, I had to cancel that order and order something one cannot ruin (salad)... it then took a while for the salad to be brought out. Handicap access is fair - there is a ramp on either side of door, but the left side (as looking at entrance) has a parking spot right there, rendering that ramp useless if someone is parked there. This in itself would not be a big deal, but the only door that opens is the one on the right - so coming up the short ramp you must pull the door toward you to open, AND try to get around it. Very awkward. Also, there's really only one or 2 spots with ramp access - leaving one to park using 2 spots in...
Read moreTHE FLIES, Lord have mercy. We couldn’t eat all of our food bc flies kept landing in and you couldn’t converse on account of swatting the flies away the whole time. Smh. Super gross. We went after work. Our waitress forgot all about us. Finally I ordered some kind of chicken fajita in a tortilla. It had ZERO seasoning and tasted like NOTHING. I mean NOTHING. The fries appeared cooked but were COLD in the center - almost like they flash fried it.
My husband’s chicken was outrageously over cooked and the grease had to be old bc the breading was super dark and insanely oily. The food was just awful. It was so much better when it was Wolfe’s. The fact that this place still gets business despite the sub par service and the terrible quality of the food they serve, is proof that we just need more options in Savannah.
Sorry guys. I wish I could leave a good review bc the waitress was sweet even though we had to remind her that we existed. You guys blew it big time. We have a lot of family here in Savannah and now none of us will gamble spending over $50 for inedible. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 Back to Jackson for dining...
