Always go here every year while in o.o.b. this year I found out through a local Facebook page that the place had changed ownership and some people were complaining about certain things. So I and my better half still wanted to go because we always found it a good place with plenty of food for the price. I went in with a open mind and was not disappointed for the most part. Still plenty of room to sit inside or to either set outside in the front or enjoy the picnic tables outback. The ordering counter is the same and the staff was friendly and pleasant . It was clean . Our number to get our food was call in a timely fashion and we received a good portion of the food we ordered. If I remember right they used to serve your food on a sturdy plastic tray, now it was a very small cheap cardboard tray and you better watch out or your food will be on the floor ( first bad strike) . They gave us a choice of there homemade starter or some Kraft starter which I prefer cause I don't care for their homemade one, I prefer sweet relish myself but we took both to try it out. ( yeah the homemade wasn't good for my taste) We enjoyed our meal as usual but the other thing people have been complaining about is they changed their coleslaw but I said it's coleslaw I have eaten all kinds from homemade to professional chef and it's all good. Now that being said let me tell you how wrong I was in that statement. Have you ever smelled what a stale beer with a cigarette butt stuck in it smelled like?? Unfortunately I have and that smell is what this coleslaw tasted like. One fork full and was ready to puke my guts. Can't believe someone thought that that was a good change. Other than that the place is the same as usual. Good food at a Fair price adequate portions. Still a...
Read moreOne of if not the best place to get seafood! Literally the only place I will eat out at when I want battered Clams, Scallops or Shrimp:) It is located in a beautiful area with lots of picnic tables on grass with lots of beautiful pine trees for shade if you want to stay out of the sun.
Everything they make is GOOD:) The portions are big!! They also have an ice-cream window- yes!!! they actually have a window for ice cream service. The service works like this: the order windows are inside..you put in your order and they call your number. You pick up your food when they call your number..you can eat inside ( there is a small family friendly bar area if you want an adult beverage ) or you just carry your disposable tray of food outside to one of the picnic tables. PS: When I say family friendly bar I just mean that it is very low key and actually blends right in with the total family friendly atmosphere of Ken's...you might not even notice it:)
Service is quick ( considering they seem to always be busy ). The staff is professional, well dressed ( in white and with aprons ) with lots of young summer hire associates who are friendly, sharp, on their game and focused on customer service. I love how they seem to always have an associate walking through the dining areas with a broom and dustpan keeping the dining area well maintained.
The building has lots of wood and is designed along the lines of classic style Maine Diners. Lots of parking and trees and grassy areas for kids to run around and have fun in. I just at their today and ordered one of my favorites..battered clams and shrimp combo. I also love the clam and scallop combo but I had that last week so I went with the shrimp today. I hope this...
Read moreKen’s Seafood – A Betrayal of a Century-Old Legacy For 100 years, Ken’s Seafood, just five minutes from the vibrant shores of Old Orchard Beach, has been a cornerstone of Maine’s summer dining. This beloved institution was synonymous with hearty, soulful seafood that captured the essence of coastal tradition. But after its recent sale, Ken’s has become a heartbreaking shadow of its former self, as the new owners have dismantled everything that made it special. The fish, once the star of Ken’s menu, is now an absolute travesty. What used to be fresh, flaky, and perfectly cooked has been replaced with dry, overcooked slivers that taste like they’ve never seen the ocean. It’s an insult to Maine’s rich seafood heritage. Even worse, the portions have shriveled to pitiful sizes. Gone are the days of generous plates overflowing with golden-fried haddock or succulent lobster—now you’re left with a few measly bites that barely qualify as a meal. For the prices they’re charging, this stinginess is nothing short of outrageous. The new owners have stripped Ken’s of its soul, turning a century of culinary pride into a soulless operation. The menu feels like a cheap imitation, devoid of the charm that made this place a local legend. Ken’s, as we knew it, is gone. Save your money and appetite for the many other Maine establishments that still honor the state’s seafood tradition. This is no longer the Ken’s Seafood we...
