More than Half of our pint of fried ‘whole belly clams’ had no clam at all or a tiny piece of clam neck, ie clam strip. The few clam bellies we had were not sweet but small and shriveled. When I commented the server just shrugged.
The credit card machine didn’t work and there was no convenient place to sit.
I won’t mention they were also pumping diesel as we ate. Yuck.
Added 2 days later: YES I HAVE THE CORRECT RESTAURANT. A life-long resident of Portland (went to Deering High) said your establishment once was good - now all batter and NO CLAM. But I can use another email address and give you another one-star review if you want to be argumentative instead of apologetic. I visited your institution (I would have called it a food-service business but as you noted you don’t ’serve’ your customers) - you feed your customers the WORST fried clams in Portland.
A young person took our order, took our cash (credit card machine wasn’t working) and SERVED our inedible food through the window where we ordered. What do you want me to call her??? She wasn’t a waitress, you don’t have table service.
And I did bring my complaint to the window - and our ‘server’ just shrugged with an apologetic look because she KNEW the WHOLE belly fried clams for $30/pint had less clam than clam strips. She didn’t offer to get the manager - maybe you should train your ‘servers’ to get the manager when there’s a complaint. What do YOU call people who don’t cook the food but take your money AND hand you (ie serve) the food? She wasn’t a cashier, or a dishwasher. Sorry I didn’t...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars for service, I wouldn’t even think twice! The owner (middle aged blonde woman) has the most atrocious manners and attitude I’ve ever come across. Her customer service skills are HORRENDOUS and the way she treats her employees is borderline abusive. She has no problem yelling at her staff, for anything and everything, at the front window while customers are waiting for service. I ordered a HOT buttered lobster roll, first bite, lobster was so cold, it might as well have been frozen. I brought it back to the window to ask if I could have a hot buttered roll, like Previously asked, to which ALL HELL broke loose. The young man took my roll back saying “I’m so sorry about that” and informed the back cooking staff. The owner comes out and the first thing she says is, “you must not be from New England” well actually.. born and raised. From there she continued to tell me that I’m not going to be happy here, simply because I asked for my lobster roll hot.. which they offer on the menu 😂 she walked away from me mid conversation like a 10 year old throwing a temper tantrum. The woman at the window apologized, and I said “oh it’s not your fault, I’m the one that’s sorry you have to work for this woman” should have known there was a problem here when the bait shack, two feet up the road, has not a single open parking space, while this place didn’t have one person in line.. kindness goes a long way.. hopefully the owner soon...
Read moreI need to respond to the previous comment by Lisa J as my friends and myself were there at that time. First of all, if someone is going to provide a review, they should provide an accurate one. The gentleman she referred to as having dementia was probably in his mid 70's and upon our arrival, he, along with 3 of the people he was with, were all noticeably intoxicated. They were even putting pretzels they had there up his nose and mouth... jokingly. The gentleman with dementia was left alone in the bathroom by himself and could not get out. It was at that time, before he hurt himself, that the owner said NICELY that he was cut off. That's when one of the people came up to the owner and bumped him and was yelling. The owner never yelled at all and handled the situation very professionally. Everyone else in the place sided with the owner as well. What I do not understand is why would anyone bring someone with dementia to a bar and provide them alcohol? That review by Lisa J is totally false and just the opposite happened. I don't understand why anyone would waste their time on writing false and fraudulent reviews. This is a great establishment and I highly...
