Canton Inn — Restaurant in Schram City

Place looked nice. We were told when we sat down we could not use a credit card because the phone lines were out. Weather was not bad so not sure what the problem was. Got an appetizer of calamari, very well done. Some pieces were just plain burnt. Salads came. They were ok. Had large blob of dressing in the middle, enough for two. Entrees of oysters and catfish were way over fried. Parts of the catfish was dried and brown. Oysters were like hard lumps of breading. Fries extremely brown and had all the taste of cardboard. We got our check and at the bottom there was a notice that if you use a credit card they would add a 3.45% surcharge to the bill. Really! Guess we were lucky the lines were down, it wasn't worth the cash we paid would have hated to have payed the extra for...

Last night was my first time at Canton Inn. We were on our way home from a funeral and it was almost 8:00 PM. Many restaurants in the area were closed and we read about this one. Wow! Glad we did. The food was great, the portions were big and the price was right. How do you beat that combination? The wait staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was ok. We sat in the bar area as the main dining room was closed. It was a bit noisy for our taste, but no one else seemed to mind the loud music. Perhaps we were just tired after a long say. We did not look at the dessert tray, but suspect the deserts would have been as good as the food. Hope to return soon for another great meal! ...

It was our first trip there. We had a reservation for 6 of us. We got seated quickly but then we waited 20+ mins to be acknowledged which was actually one of us asking for menus so we could have our order ready. I think our waitress was great when she was working with us so I'm not sure where the ball was dropped. We didn't get asked if we wanted more drinks but because of the service we did get our one drink for free. I did think it was sweet because no one in the party voiced any disappointment to anyone. It was recognized and made right in an unexpected way. Because of this, I'd give it another chance.
