Eating here helped me better understand history. I now realize why it was so important for England to go to war over spices.
I didn’t take any pictures of my own, but if you scroll through the pictures left by other reviewers, you will see how bland the pasta dishes look.
We had a party of 5. I ordered eggplant parm and my partner ordered chicken parm. They looked as bare and basic as something someone who has never stepped foot in a kitchen would make. The red sauce used must have been a can from a generic food supply warehouse and heated up with nothing added to it. It lacked flavor or spice. A jar of Ragu would have been a major upgrade. This sauce was so incredibly basic and uninspired. It met the bare minimum requirements to be “red sauce”.
I didn’t try my partners chicken, but she only took a couple bites before stopping all together and making a note that with every bite she could feel and taste the oil dripping from it. My eggplant was so thinly sliced, I felt I was eating more breadcrumbs than eggplant. I also only had a couple bites, because I felt I was only eating deep fried breadcrumbs.
All of our pasta also came out overcooked.
We ordered 2 appetizers to start. The mozzarella sticks were a hit at the table but the calamari was flavorless, and again, tasted more deep fried than actual substance.
The waitress was kind, but when we asked her about the specials we were told “they are written down in the front”. Which is a minor complaint, but seemed a little silly to pass the responsibility of finding out the specials to the customers.
Then on top of all of this, there was 45 minutes between placing our order and receiving our food which is a on the longer side to wait for a party of 5. That’s a normal size family. We watched tables who ordered after us get their food before us. Maybe the kitchen just wanted to make sure the pasta was going to be overcooked?
Something that was unpleasant that is out of the restaurants control, and not something that effects the rating I gave it, but we were seated by some extremely rude guests who would not stop making comments about our party the entire time. I wasn’t made aware of it until I left and my partner brought it to my attention. But they were upset that “young people could be so wasteful with their food”, like it was our fault the food was so terrible? I only mention it to include the clientele. Cranky, entitled boomers.
If you’re in the Scituate/Glocester area and looking for a place to eat, Italian or otherwise, I’d suggest making your way down to Cuozzos, Famous Pizza, or Cindy’s. I promise you that pizza places sell a better tasting pasta dish. Heck, I would make the effort to drive to Killingly CT, or Johnston. There’s plenty of restaurants with better quality food.
This place is not a good restaurant, let alone a good Italian restaurant. Whoever is in the kitchen is doing the bare minimum to make the...
Read moreLast night my mother brought me her left over veal and peas with polenta... It was delicious! When I asked her where it was from she told me the Corner Bistro. Tonight my husband and I had a date night and of course we went to Corner Bistro. The service was great, the hostess and waitress were very friendly. The restaurant had a laid back atmosphere, and the decor made it feel like your at a relatives house eating dinner. I have celiac disease, they have gluten free pasta and they were very accommodating. Most of all... Oh my god the food! I wish there's a better word than delicious. The bread, home made dressings, the soup, so good! My husband had the shrimp scampi and they made it spicy just for him which is how he likes it, the shrimp were HUGE and the pasta was cooked perfectly. He loved it! I had the chicken Josephine which was totally scrumptious. The portions were large, which I love. My husband is a wicked picky eater and he declared Corner Bistro our new date spot. I can't wait to go back and try there other...
Read moreMy wife and I visited Corner Bistro on a visit to Connecticut for a wedding. We left Houston that morning very early, had a layover in ATL and then flew on to Providence where we rented a car to drive the rest of the way.
Corner Bistro is an unassuming restaurant on a quiet two lane road. The ambiance is very homey and comforting. For our appetizer we enjoyed the stuffed mushrooms, which were stuffed with a delightful seafood concoction that melted in your mouth. Our soup course was a pasta e fagioli which impressed us both. My wife hates beans in all of their various forms, but tonight she really enjoyed them.
Our main course, which we split, was scrod al marinara with linguine. The cod was perfectly cooked, tender, flakey and flavorful. The pasta I suspect was made fresh, given its delightful texture. Overall a fantastic experience. A lot of food for not a...
