My mom has a disability. When we arrived there was a cone reserving the only open handicap parking space. Despite this, we decided to park elsewhere to try this place in our neighborhood since we were looking forward to it and had even made a reservation. When asked about the cone, the hostess apologized for the inconvenience and explained that the cone was put out for another patron that needed the parking space and had a reservation. To the best of my knowledge this is illegal and I was not asked when placing my reservation what kind of parking we required. However, we still planned to eat and were not rude to her or anyone. After we were seated, we were still discussing it because my mom was in pain from the difficult walk in. We did not complain further to the staff but were overheard discussing it ourselves by our waiter. Rather than offering a simple apology or just minding his own business, he was incredibly rude and sarcastic making it sound like we were so difficult he just couldn't get over it and wasn't sure he could even serve us our food. Apparently, this place is only for you if you are a regular as they treat new customers like dirt and lack empathy for disabilities or the pain caused by them when the parking in unavailable. Honestly, the waiter was much too rude to even consider staying so despite the pain of it for my mom who had already struggled to get in, we left without eating. We were there at least 15 minutes and the space still had a cone with no one in it. Perhaps it is the owner who was coming in and that is why the waiter was so defensive about it he forgot human decency or service. For us, it wasn't about the cone and we would have understood if that was the case. It was how we were treated that made it so we will never go back. I think they know how rude they were because they "cancelled" my Open Table reservation the next day to make sure I could not post a review there. Yikes, they could have really used a new customer that they just lost. Not...
Read moreThis was my second visit here. My first visit was with co-workers and overall good. I enjoyed the food and made a mental note to come back soon to try some other things. My only complaint about the first visit was the waiter never came back to check on our food and I was lucky enough to get one drink refill. The waiter had disappeared and wasn’t visible the entire meal. My second visit wasn’t great. My husband and two young children went with me this time. We were greeted at the door by a nice waiter/host and escorted to a table. It was not busy at all so I expected decent service. Our waiter approached our table and didn’t say a word. He set down the bread and oil on the table and stared at us, presumably wanting our drink order. I asked what beers they had on draft. He listed them, I chose, but then he forgot my drink. We had to ask a 2nd time. We also wanted Sprite for our kids but asked them to bring it at dinner instead of now. It never showed up. It wasn’t a big deal because I don’t like my kids drinking soda too much but it was the principle of the thing. I listened as he approached another table of adults across the room who had just come in. He thoroughly explained the “specials” in detail. He BARELY talked to us at all. In fact, I’m pretty sure the only thing he said to us was “Are you ready to order?” and “Would you like some parmesan?” He never came back after the food was served and my food was greasy. I was going to order another drink but decided against it. I didn’t want to wait 20 minutes for a drink. This trip was a semi-special occasion but I hated that visit and I will not be back. That’s too bad because the first time, the food was really good and I was excited to try something else. I’m not sure if the waiter hates children or something? We are a quiet family and keep to ourselves so I’m not sure why we were treated differently than a group of adults...
Read moreMy wife and I decided to go to dinner Fridan night and I remembered that a friend had spoken about this place with great enthusiasm. We walked in and my first impression was that the Ambiance score was not very high. In fact, I recalled visiting this same location when it was a Sushi restaurant a couple years ago. The appearance had not changed much. The fact that there was a 45 min wait to get a table reminded me that this was probably going to be a good place to eat. My wife and I ventured across the parking lot to Zips for a cocktail to kill the time. The bartender at Zips asked us if we needed menus and we told her that we had plans to eat at La Torretta at 8pm. She said that their food was MUCH MUCH better than Zips and assured us that we made the right choice. We returned to La Toretta and were greeted by Darius (I think that is his name) and he took us to a table…..and then served our table. Turns out he is the owner, and he has a great sense of humor. When I asked him his name I thought he said “Daenerys” to which I responded “Storm born?” and he cleverly caught on and said “yes, of the House Targaryen”. This is from the Game of Thrones series for you NON nerds reading this review. His service was amazing. I had the Glute Free Pasta Bolognese, and it might have been the best meal of my life. I gave serious consideration to licking the plate but figured my wife (an Angel) would be embarrassed and I would let me come back if I brought shame upon her and our family, so I restrained myself. My wife loved her stuffed Shells. Both dishes were generous portions. The Cabinet was great, and the Tiramisu was delicious. The prices seemed quite reasonable.
My new fear that too many people will find out about this place and it gets too busy for me to...
