A Mediocre Experience at Uncle Louie The Restaurant
My recent visit to Uncle Louie The Restaurant in Scottsdale was a bit of a mixed bag. While the service and food were not terrible, there were enough inconsistencies and disappointments to warrant a three-star review.
Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately struck by the casual ambiance. It seemed like a popular spot for the local community, particularly the senior citizens. However, I couldn't shake off the feeling that the atmosphere lacked a certain vibrancy or energy that one would expect from a restaurant with such high reviews.
One of the first things that caught my attention was the staff. Instead of bustling around attending to customers or preparing for the dinner rush, most of them were just idling around. This lack of urgency or interest was quite surprising, especially considering the reputation of Uncle Louie's. I had the distinct impression that the owner was not present; otherwise, I'm sure the staff behavior would have been different.
As for the food, I found it somewhat bland. It's clear that the cuisine is catered towards the taste buds of the local senior population, which might explain the lack of bold flavors. The menu boasted a variety of Italian classics, but they all seemed to lack the depth and complexity I was hoping for.
The most disappointing part of the evening, however, was observing the kitchen staff through the window. On more than one occasion, I noticed a staff member touching his hair and then continuing to work without washing his hands. This blatant disregard for basic food safety was very off-putting and certainly put a damper on the entire dining experience.
Despite these issues, there were some positive aspects of my visit. The restaurant's decor was charming and the portions were generous. Even though the food lacked flavor, it was clear that the ingredients were fresh and of good quality.
Uncle Louie The Restaurant has potential, but my experience was marred by lackluster service and food safety concerns. I hope the management takes note of these issues and takes steps to improve. After all, every customer deserves an enjoyable dining experience, regardless of their age or palate...
Read moreI haven't been here in years but used to come frequently. All of the other restaurants in the area were extremely busy tonight, so I decided to come to Uncle Louie's. I was alone and sat at the bar. The bartenders/servers were too busy chit chatting with themselves and everyone else, or literally wiping down the counter in front of me and never once asked to help me. I felt invisible as I sat there patiently waiting. I finally interrupted the male bartender and asked if I could please place an order as I had been waiting 20 minutes and was starving. I ordered a beer, bread and my pasta. A lady came in and sat down next to me and was greated and helped instantly, unlike the experience I had... Then 2 minutes later my "to go" order arrived... I wanted to eat there, I never ordered to go. The bartender was so rude when I said I didn't order my food to go. It made me feel like I wasn't welcome to eat my dinner there. I literally wanted to cry. I had a horrible day and this was the icing on the cake. I just wanted a relaxing dinner but that didnt happen. I left and left the take out order there that I didnt order. I felt so unwelcome and I will NEVER...
Read moreBig Disappointment. Not a fine dining experience. Played obnoxious 90’s rock music, encouraging me to leave asap and not get another glass of wine. We paid over $100 for 2 adults. Not worth the money. It’s crowded and loud. Not a place where you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Very uncomfortable. Go somewhere else. Small portions for the price. I agree with the other reviewer, that they don’t put enough sauce on. My veal was way over cooked. Had to ask for bread… which came with overcooked rolls. No balsamic vinegar. The cheesecake was good, though. I was hoping for a better selection of Italian wines. They have a lot of $12/bottle California wines you can get at the market . I don’t know what we were paying over $100 for….. Olive Garden way surpassed the quality of food, service, and atmosphere for way less money and much much bigger portions…… and I don’t like supporting big corporations. Do better uncle Louie… you’re in north Scottsdale… we expect better…. Don’t let Olive Garden make...
